He wasn't breathing-Patrick. He had made the burden a little less to bear. As I reached the surface I pulled them onto the sand and watched them. Hoping that they wouldn't die, but at the same time I hoped that they would just stay how they were a little longer. I could see that the older boy was breathing but Patrick wasn't; the older boy- his brother was breathing funny. His breathed in a rhythmic pattern as I scooted closer to Patrick to get a closer look at the land dweller. I don't know how anyone couldn't see that they were brothers they looked the same in the way that their hair curled at the nape of their neck and their skin color; how they were sprawled out as if they were just sleeping. But that was where the similarities ended. Patrick was smaller, slimmer in the hips and not as broad in the shoulders. He was beautiful to me and that meant that he was in more danger than he had been in drowning .The only thing that I could think to do was to make him breathe. I would have to do what Rene does to the soldiers with her gift. You see Rene has one of the less exciting gifts she's a healer and she has taught me all she knows about treating the ones that came in that were injured. She taught me how to do CPR, mouth to mouth and compressions. As I touched my lips to his to breathe air into his lungs I felt a flutter in my heart. He was the first boy I had ever kissed and I wanted to remember it for the rest of my life. His lips were soft but cracked from the wind and wet, they tasted of salt water. His eyes began to flutter and then they opened. I will always remember the color of his eyes; they were the color of deep sea foam green. He paused a moment and I was so shocked I couldn't understand what was happening but he did; his eyes widened as he backed away from me glancing at my tail as he did. I couldn't tell if he was disgusted at my tail, my kiss or confused about the situation. I felt a hole was being ripped out of my heart as I rushed towards the water my back to him as the tears fell down my face.
