Kaneki sat in a darkened Anteiku, gasping slightly, breathing lightly, trying to fight his inner ghoul, although he had already embraced it. All this work, but to no avail, you see, because his left eye had already become that of a ghoul, small red veins making their homes on the bottom of his eye. Suddenly, he heard the pouring of water and the clinking of cups. Something was being poured into the cups, and it smelled strangely like...coffee? Kaneki heard two pairs of footsteps coming closer and closer to him, until one of the mystery people spoke up.
"Its surprisingly hard to make coffee, isn't it?" The person said, stepping out. The first thing he noticed about the person was their orange hair. Hide? but it couldn't be! He hadn't seen hide in ages! Then, the other persons' footsteps could be heard coming to sand next to Hide. "Yo, Kaneki." that (h/c) hair, those (e/c) eyes....
The next thing he noticed was the fact they were wearing CCG squad uniforms. So Hide and (Y/n) had taken to work for the CCG? Why though...'Did they think i was dead?' Kaneki thought to himself. gasping slightly.
"H-hide....(y-y/n)...."
Hide and (Y/n) smiled, making a sound of content. Kaneki just stared at them, while they stared back. Suddenly, the now white-haired ghoul gasped and slapped his hand over his one ghoulish eye, looking downward, so as to avoid the gaze of his childhood friends. He started to breath a bit heavier, and his breath faltered every so often, signifying that he, Kaneki Ken, the boy turned half-ghoul, converted into full ghoul, was crying. Hide sighed a bit, his eyes looking downcast as well, while his friend patted his shoulder, sighing as well. (Y/n) looked down at her friend, slowly removing her petite hand from the mans' shoulder and whispering.
"Kaneki..." Kaneki only cried a bit harder, no noise coming from his mouth other than his heavy breathing. "We knew." She admitted, and kaneki abruptly stops his crying, jolting his head up and looking her directly in her caring, warm, (e/c) orbs. Hide smiled a bit, and Kaneki turned his scared gaze to the ginger, who only smiled more at him. "Yeah, we knew." he hummed, trying to stay optimistic. In the silence, small drops of liquid were heard, and (Y/n) looked down to see small droplets of blood, and assuming they came from her uniform, as it was stained with blood, and a pinkish bandage wrapped around her waist, as the bleeding had stopped long ago. Hide sat down, the dripping following him a bit, (Y/n) then realising the blood hadn't come from her, but from her friend.
"Hide." the (h/c)ette said in a warning tone, eyes motioning to the blood on the floor. "I'm ok" he insisted, and sat down fully, taking a sip of his coffee. "Ugh, this is lousy, must not have been ready yet." He huffed, putting the cup back down. His partner grabbing the other cup and flinching softly. "Hnng, Sorry Kaneki, this one's lousy too..." She put down the cup and gagged a bit, all the while the boys just stared at her, reembering her from when they were still together in college. No worries, no ghouls, no nothing. (Y/n) sat down on the floor, pulling her knees up towards her chest, eyes clouding over with tears that spilled over her cheeks. "I guess i couldn't be that easy, huh?" she sniffed, pushing a strand of (h/c) out of her face.
"Oh, come to think of it Kaneki, do you remember?" Hide suddenly chided, hoping to break the sad atmosphere, "That time i got the crap beaten out of me by Mr.Nishio?" he chuckled softly, and Kaneki gasped a bit, out of remembrance. So hehad remembered that? (y/n) giggled a bit. "Heh, yeah, to be honest, i thought you were dead, Hide!" she said softly from her position on the floor. "Hm! I tried playing dead to get though it, but that guy shows no mercy!" he laughed a bit, wiping a stray tear. "Well, i guess it's no use!" He chuckled, trying to make a bit of light in our situation.
Every one was silent, Kaneki's hand still over his eye, but the room brightened a bit. "Kaneki." (Y/n) smiled. "Thanks for going all-out to save us back then~" she said, for the first time since their meeting, showing a bit of happiness. Kaneki shuddered, a tear forming at the base of his only visible eye, and, finally, pulling his hand off his eye slowly, showing his one ghoul eye to the world, seemingly more calm, although (Y/n) and Hide could tell he was freaking out. Suddenly, more dripping could be heard, and (Y/n) whipped her head to face Hide and stalked towards him, pushing him back down into his chair and placing a hand on his thigh, eyes showing concern for her friend. "(Y/n)-chan, relax ok? im fine!" He whispered. Pushing her off and standing to his feet, while the (h/c) girl began to cry, no sounds could be heard but her tears could be seen in the gleam of the moonlight.
"When i look at the folks in Anteiku, i thought, "It sure is nice how they're all so full of life." Hide hummed, reminiscing about his old life, when he was younger and with no care, seeing Touka, Hinami, and all the Anteiku gang, Kaneki included. "And you were there among them..." (Y/n) stepped in. her tears growing softer, as she wiped them. "It kind of felt like we were the only ones' being left out." She took her coffee and dumped it back in the thermos, placing her cup on the bar. "And so we....we decided to do whatever we could." She finished, pulling her locks up into a ponytail. Hide looked up. "But with things ending up like this..." he spoke softly, almost as if he was afraid to break the mood. "There's almost nothing we can do by ourselves, me and (y/n)..." Kaneki gasped softly. He never would have thought the always happy hide and the oh so cheerfully optimistic (y/n) could feel such a way, and to think that he thought he was the only one suffering... "Kaneki, don't go taking all of this on yourself so much." the ginger smiled up at his friend, who was taking in his two best friends' words. "Its something you've always done!" both the investigators giggled a bit, looking at the ghoul. Kaneki smiled, for the first time in years. A full, genuine smile. "Mhm." He spoke, his eyes softening. (Y/n) gasped and smiled along with him, while hide did the same.
Another slosh of blood was heard, and (Y/n) practically yelled. "HIDEYOSHI NAGACHIKA." but when (Y/n only saw his smile, she banged her head onto the table, ignoring the worried glances of her friends. Hide walked back and hugged her, saying, "After this, you can bandage me, before walking over to Kaneki and sitting down on the table, dragging (Y/n) with him. (Y/n) held up a finger to her lips, smirking to kaneki, before pushing Hide out of the booth and unsheathing her bandages from her bag. "(Y/n) NO!" Hide screamed, scared of what was to happen. "KANEKI HELP ME HOLD HIM DOWN!" The girl screamed, grabbing a needle and some black surgical thread from her bag, as well as some anaesthetics and disinfectant wipes. "I didn't study surgery for nothing, Hide! Let us save you!" she huffed, watching as kaneki pinned his arms and legs, and watching as (Y/n) jammed the needle into Hide's side, watching as he suddenly went under.
Time skip:
Hide felt himself wake up, and, when he tried to sit up, he was gently pushed down by a pale hand. "Hide-chan, you were out for a few days! I thought i killed you or something!" (Y/n) cried, as she hugged him. Kaneki walked into the room, holding a cup of coffee, and changed into his old hoodie and house pants, along with some socks. His ghoul eye wasn't showing, instead, two glowing, silver orbs looked at the scene infront of him, and he abruptly stopped when he felt a smaller body wrapping it's arms around his waist. Looking down, he saw (Y/n) attached to him, sobbing loudly. Kaneki smiled, grabbing her thighs and hoisting her up, walking towards Hide, placing the young inspector at Hide's other side. Mindful of his stitches, Kaneki and (Y/n) hugged him, each having their cheeks pressed against his cheeks, (Y/n) on his right and Kaneki on his left. Suddenly, Kaneki looked up at Hide, humming. "Ne, Hide-kun, do you remember what you said to us before (Y/n) put you under the knife?" Flashes of memory were coming back to him, and he had to lean back down.
FLASHBACK:
"(Y/n)-chan, Kaneki-kun....Let's go home....together....guys...." Both (Y/n) and Kaneki began to cry, and they nodded their heads, before everything turned black for Hide, and (Y/n) disinfected his flesh wound.
~FLASHBACK END~
"Y-yeah...I said, "Lets go home together"...right?" Hide smiled.
(Y/n) and Kaneki giggled, yes, giggled and hugged Hide again. "Well, Hide," Both friends began, looking at each other and smiling.
"We're Home..."
