"They are going to like you," This gave me confidence and I was now ready to go in.

The couple asked me questions such as my name, age, what I liked to do in my spare time, the chores I do, etc. I was as honest as can be. I mean you don't want to end up with a family who don't actually like you now do you.

"My name is Alice, I am now 16 years old, I like to draw and paint in my spare time, and for chores I clean, keep my room tidy, do laundry, wash the dishes, care for the younger orphans and make sure the pets are all clean." I smiled.

"Thank you Alice. You can leave now." Ms. Clark announced.

"If you don't mind?-" the woman of the couple spoke.

"Alice? Come back here please." Ms Clark called before I left the room. I turned around and walked back to where the couple was sitting. Ms. Clark gestured towards the lady who I only now noticed was quite finely built and had beautiful blonde hair.

"Uh- Alice? I- I was wondering about the issue from your previous home?" She spoke in a way that sounded as if it was a question.

When she noticed the scared look on my face she looked sorry for asking.

I swallowed a huge build up of air, trying to push away my tears.

I began-

*a few hours later*

I was sitting on the couch in the living room with Max holding my hand to keep me calm.

"I have a feeling we are getting out of here." He whispers just before Ms. Clark and the couple walk into the room.

We stand up and walk closer to them.

"Alice, Max. Meet your new parents" she announced.

I turned to Max, stunned. I hugged him first then my new parents. It felt so weird to think that way. This was the beginning of a new life.

I immediately ran upstairs to the room I shared with 5 other girls and packed all my stuff into my bag. I said goodbye to Lilly, Ruby, Emily, Ashley and My best friend Arly before I went to Sophie's room. Sophie was like a little sister to me. On her first night in the orphanage I had caught her downstairs hiding in a clipboard, crying because she was scared. she was only 9 now so I decided not to tell anyone as they would over react. I took her back to bed and slept in there with her. We have been sisters since.

"Sophie?" I knocked on the door as entering. I found Sophie sitting on her bed crying.

"So I'm guessing that you have heard the news?" I sat next to her and pulled her into a hug.

"This doesn't change anything. Just that I won't be here in person the whole time." I sighed as she cried. "Soph, I'll make a deal with you. I'll come visit every chance I get. And we can talk everyday on the phone. Here's my number." I grabbed a pen and paper off of her bedside table. None of her room mates were in here luckily. I folded the paper and placed it in her hand, wrapping her fingers around it.

"Now. Don't cause too much trouble, and I'll call you as soon as I get a free moment. I love you so much okay? Don't forget that." I gave her one last squeeze and stood up. As I tried to walk away I felt her hand grab mine.

"I'm going to miss you. You are like my sister." She smiled softly.

I turn back around and walk to her, holding both of her hands in mine.

"I am your sister." I smile and hug her before leaving.

Off I go. New house, new family, new life.
