Chapter 4 The Truth Will Set You Free

Shauntal (Present Day)

My hands were literally trembling. The words on this paper seem so unreal. "Chlamydia", I could not believe what the hell I was reading. Naw this aint my Dante. Not the love of my life. This could not be my life right now.

After three years of marriage and two children Dante cheated on me and done got an STD. I was beyond furious. He was the last person I thought that would ever cross me over.

After everything that I've been through with my family, he promised me that I could trust him. But now I see you can trust no one.

Him getting an STD shows how little respect he has for me, he didn't even wear a condom.

Was I not woman enough for him that he had to go look elsewhere. Day in and day out I cook, clean, take care of our beautiful children and I even find time for him. I try to do little spontaneous things like date night, massages, weekend getaways and it still wasn't enough.

All I have to show is a mansion, luxury cars, designer clothes, and diamonds. All of which Dante has paid for. But those materialistic things don't mean anything if Dante doesn't show me love and respect.

"Shauntal!", Dante yelled from downstairs.

"Yeah", I responded. I quickly placed the envelope back into the box and closed the closet door.

He opened the door and walked in. Just the sight of his face made me mad. He has some nerve coming home like nothing's up and he's over here living a double life.

"Shauntal I said where are your car keys I can't find mine and the garage opener is on my key chain so I can't use any of the other cars".

"Uh- uh it's right there", I stuttered pointing to counter.

"Oh thanks. You okay baby?" You look like dazed.

Is he really asking me am I okay? The nerve of him. "Why wouldn't I be?", I responded crossing my arms.

"Well alright I'll be back", he said leaning in for a kiss but I turned my head just in time and his lips connected with my cheek. I don't know what he got in his mouth but all I know is I aint catching it.

"What was that?"

"What was what?", I said with lots of sarcasm with my hands placed firmly on my hip.

"That attitude, you need to chill with that it's too early in the morning."

I had to bite my tongue and play this shit cool for now. I did not want to start an argument with the girls in the house. We never fought in front of them and I did not want to start now. "Will you stop depriving your wife and make love to her? I mean what is it, do you not find me attractive anymore?", I asked looking directly into his eyes.

He looked away. "It's not that it's..... it's just complicated."

"So complicated that you can't tell your wife?" He didn't respond. "Oh, no comment that's exactly what I thought. Just go."

"Just give me some time. That's all I'm asking."

Naw nigga I just gave you the perfect opportunity to tell me the truth and he still aint say nothing. I didn't marry a dog and I'm not about to lay next to one, I thought.

"Tanya I need a huge favor, I need you to watch Lily for me", I said sniffling into the phone.

"What's going on?'', she asked.

"I'll explain it to you when I see you. I don't have a car right now so could you please come over and pick her up."

"Alright give me thirty."

After I hung up the phone the water works just started I couldn't hold it in any longer.

I was beyond hurt, he broke my heart. I grabbed my suitcase and started throwing random clothes in, I couldn't even think straight or see past the tears the things I was flinging into the bag.

I then went into the girl's room and started throwing their things into a bag too. I looked over at Lily who was sleeping peacefully in her crib. I looked over at her beautiful face and the anger just grew right back up.

He didn't just cheat on his wife, he cheated his children as well and as far as I'm concerned he doesn't deserve any of us. He can keep his side hoe and her STD filled pussy.

Tanya came soon after and got Lily.

I went into my room and got ready. I brought the luggage downstairs and waited on the steps for Dante to come back.

When the door creaked I looked up.

"What is all this?", he said looking at the luggage and back at me confused.

"I'm leaving", I replied dryly.

His whole demeanor changed. "What the fxck you mean you leaving?", he said raising his voice.

"I-M L-E-A-V-I-N-G and I'm taking the girls with me, you understand now", I said looking at him stupidly.

He stepped forward until he was mere inches from me, I stood up feeling intimidated by his size. If there's one thing I knew about Dante is that he was real territorial about what was his. He was not going to take this lightly.

"No your not, he said grabbing my arm and looking into my eyes. He was furious, I felt it in the grasp he had on my arm. I felt goosebumps, I flung my arm back.

"I am a grown woman I make my own decisions."

"This about the sex huh. You ready to up and leave me because you can't get off. Your acting like a slut! So I can't give you what you want so your going to find some nigga on the street to take what's mine. I don't think so."

*Pow!*. I delivered a slap to his face. I knew it hurt him cause my hand was burning, but he deserved it. "Don't you dare call me out of my name and don't try to flip the script on me", I said sternly.

His jaw twitched.

"Well guess what, the day you decided to cheat was the day you broke our marriage vows. I'm done."

"What are you talking about?"

"This", I said throwing the test results in his face. He stood there quiet and his body just froze.

He was shocked. "Baby---Baby I can explain."

"No let me explain. You had plenty of chances to explain. I don't want to hear you, of course now that you caught you want to explain. You have lied to me and disrespected me for far too long. You had me sitting here thinking something was wrong with me".

"Baby please----", he pleaded with tears building up in his eyes.

"LET ME FINISH!, I can't stay here with you I need some space to figure out what I am going to do". By now the tears were falling freely.

"I'm so sorry I will do whatever I can to make this right. I'm getting treatment and the doctor says ...". He tried to move closer to me. I backed up.

I grabbed my keys from his hand.

"I promise Shauntal you better not walk out that door", he half yelled with his blood shot red eyes piercing me.

I grabbed my things and left, never looking back.
