Just another day as me
Strolling along like I own the place
The others move out of my way
As I confidently walk
I climb to the highest place
And sit down, overlooking everyone
I lay back, sighing happily
About to drift off to sleep for bedtime
When I am startled by a crashing sound
I jump and see everyone scatter frantically
My people are not nearby
They are asleep
I search the landscape for intruders
With the best eyesight around, it's easy
I stay quiet as the intruders walk past
I fight the urge to whack one of them upside their head
I know I am outnumbered
As soon as they pass, I climb down
Slinking around on pads quietly in the shadows
They head upstairs
I panic, that's where my people are!
I bow up and let out a bloodcurdling growl and hiss
I cry out as a hand knocks me to the ground
Everything goes black
I awake later to the scene of cat faces
Watching to see if I am still alive
I recall quickly what had happened
Searching around and sniffing for the danger
I realize the burglars are gone
I rush to the upstairs room where my people are
I know something is bad wrong
The door is never open, except now
I race in with everyone else following on my heels
A smell I've only smelled when I scratch a person is strong in my nose
I search frantically around and find the people laying in their beds
Phew, I sigh, at least they are still asleep
As I am about to hop down off my person's bed
A moon's ray shines on some kind of liquid near her
I realize what it is and figure out that it is coming out of my person
Blood, oh no
I stand for a moment
Scared, unknowing
I rush to her face and lick it, hoping that maybe it'll wake her
The more seconds pass by, the faster I lick
But to no avail
I race to try to wake the other people
They do not respond
I sit, the other cats collecting around me
For the first time ever
They see that I don't know what to do
I always know what to do
Just as my person always wakes up
She always comes for me
She always holds me close
My ears would fill with the sound of her heart
And her ears would fill with my purrs
Her warm caresses always let me know I am safe
But she doesn't wake
She doesn't hold me
She doesn't caress my fur
I sit, eyes burning with tears that can't fall
Cats watching to see what they should do
Wondering why their leader is not doing anything
I sit in the middle of all 3 of them
Helpless
This was just supposed to be another day in my life?
Another day as me?
No, it will never be the same again
Never
