Chapter 2

After Sparkfur spilled out to Silverleaf the wise medicine cat paused, "You mean Fallenleaf told you this?"

    "Yes, why shouldn't she?"

Silverleaf suddenly stopped. Her eyes lit up like they held all of Starclan in their depths. What is going on that I can't see? Sparkfur wondered.  Silverleaf's mouth moved but no words came out, she shivered, and her blue eyes becoming icy. "Silverleaf? Silverleaf are you okay?" Sparkfur quaked.

Silverleaf's tail twitched violently and then stopped, her eyes unglazed and her breathing calmed. Sparkfur saw her eyes change back to normal with a sigh of relief. "A message from Starclan." Silverleaf mumbled.

   "In the day?" Sparkfur asked.

"Yes mouse brain, I am a medicine cat. Any way," She said as she twitched her ears, "it was Pinefrost, an old medicine cat from the lake. She said that the new prophecy, has begun."

Sparkfur felt her disappointment grow, that's it? What about clearing up what this prophecy means? Her tail brushed some strong smelling dried herbs on the rocky cave floor and scattered the brittle leaves out of their pile. " Watch it!" Silverleaf hissed, "I was almost done sorting through this mess and you just," Silverleaf paused and pointed her ears toward the opening of her den, " Someone is calling you Sparkfur, tell me if you get anything else."

Well then, Sparkfur thought as she padded out of the smelly medicine cat den. "Sparkfur!" It was Adderclaw.

Sparkfur instantly regretted what she said to her sister earlier, her head dipped as she started to walk towards her sister. "I'm so sorry," Sparkfur started to spill out, "I didn't mean to snap at you like that." She meowed, looking at her paws.

Her sister, her orange and white fur shimmering, nudged Sparkfur, "you don't have to say sorry, part of it was my fault, besides, your expecting kits, that's when cats usually get grumpy!" She giggles, like her old self, Sparkfur winced at the thought.

Sparkfur felt a cloud cover the sun as she sat on the Hot Rocks, warming her belly and paws. Icegaze came up to sit with Sparkfur, he hasn't talked to me as much since the news with the kits, she thought.

"Hello Sparkfur, want me to grab you some fresh-kill? The last patrol just came in, Sunpaw caught you something he said." He finished with a purr.

"Sure, I guess I am a bit hungry." Sparkfur mumbled as she felt her stomache growl. The dusk patrol would be going out soon, and she wanted to get in her den before then.

Icegaze left with a nod and left Sparkfur to think. Maybe he isn't talking to me, not because of the kits, but because of my sister, he was split up with her when she got hurt...

Icegaze padded back, carrying a squirrel in his jaws. Sparkfur's mouth watered when she realized how starving she was. Icegaze took a bite and shuffled it towards her. Sparkfur took a big bite, unknowingly and then stared in surprise when she gulped it down, "Sorry," she said while licking her lips.

The dusk patrol was getting ready to leave when Icegaze and Sparkfur finished their meal. They chatted about how well Sunpaw could hunt and even thanked the young apprentice when he walked by. "I have to go lay down now." Sparkfur meowed, standing up.

"Okay, toward morning I could take you out for a walk, we could go watch the apprentices train at the training area, unless you are too tired now."

"No no no! I'm fine, that sounds great! Anyway, see you in the morning!" Sparkfur piped, happy to finally be able to get out of the camp, she padded over to the nursery, and the last thing that went through the her mind while curling down into her soft mossy nest was that Between fire and ice lies a spark untamed.
