Starless Night

I look around me on this eve
all I see are brick and leave.
This concrete cage weighs them down
But doesn't bring them to a frown.
For they have been here far too long
To miss the midnight sky's fair song.
The stars that shine far from light
Are what gives beauty to the night.
They warrant praise, every one.
It is they when day is done.
But in this place where air is thick
The stars have hidden rather quick.
How can one miss the lights?
To be far from them stirs great fright.
In them I see a new escape,
A way to find my happy place.
To the moon, they are it's vice.
Stars evoke lost paradise.
So now I wonder why some would
Do away with stars for good?
Though cities stretch far and wide
The fields are where the stars reside.
