Chapter 1
"Mummy, I really don't want to!!" I exclaimed. It is official. Not only drunk mum is crazy, apparently the rarely-sober version of her is also. One fine day, she decided she would just pack up all our bags and live town! Now we are in Orlando, and let me tell you, I am not excited, not at all.
"Look, Kat," Mum put her hands on her hips, "We got on the plane and we are here. You are going to Lirvana High School, and that is it. You think I don't miss home? That place, just, contained s-so many m-memories of Sam, I-I can't..." A sob wrecked her body, and I instantly felt guilty.
I knew why mum wanted to leave Minnesota. It was because of dad. I still remember the haunted look on her face when a friend of hers, Jermaine Talon Brown came to our house, telling my mother that my father had died in a brutal car accident. She had explained that Samuel was driving drunk and the other driver had died instantly, just like my father.Mum had narrowed her eyes at Jermaine, and I thought it perhaps meant it was a prank, but after the two women went into the kitchen for ten minutes, mum was a blabbering mess. She had collasped on the ground, crying, screaming, for my father.
I had really wanted to help.
Then she started drinking. To be honest, you might say I should appreciate how she thought of school so important she stayed sober, but I would tell you that it is probably because the airplane didn't provide liquor.
"Mum," I sighed. "Alright, I will go, but look, I am doing this for you, and I would hate to come home to find you drunk again."
Mum nodded her head obediently, "Sure, sunshine."
With a last hesitant look her way, I went upstairs to my room to take my bag, slid on a blue sundress that I recently was given and a white cardigan. I recalled how she used 'sunshine' so casually in the past, and now she used it again, memories start flooding back and I can't help that tear that trickled down my cheek.
I went down and kissed her mother's cheek softly before she went out onto the streets of Orlando, looking for the way to Lirvana High School.
*~*~*~*
Lirvana High School was the same as every other high school, except it was grand. Grand as in marvellous and big and antique and warm. I was instantly in love with it.
"Are you new?" A blonde wearing a crop top and denim shorts asked her. I gave an awkward smile and nodded, "Yeah, I am Katherine."
"And I don't care," The girl said snootily, staring at the hand I stuck out like a piece of crap.
There goes the warmth.
"Er, okay..." I self-consciously retracted my hand, wiping them on my sundress.
"Stop harassing the new kid, Janice," A boy walked by, scolding the blonde. He was hot. He had a mob of brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. He was tall, with a mysterious look in his brown eyes. He was enthralling and captivating, drawing you to him. Muscles could be seen from his arms, and he was obviously a jock.
"Stop checking me out, sweetheart," He smirked at me as I glared at him.
"I wasn't, I was comparing your eyes to the colour of poop," I snapped. His eyes widened for a second before they lit up with amusement.
"Stop lying, sweetheart," He teased.
I raised my eyebrow. "Does everything you say start with a 'Stop'?"
He frowned at me, shaking his head. "Stop assuming things."
Then he realised what he said, and groaned out loud. "No, no it doesn't."
