Prologue: Dad's secrets

I've always had a deep care for my brother Eli. When he disappeared 5 years after our Father had, on his 15th birthday right before I had even turned 14 the next month, I was devastated. That is until I uncovered what he was really up to. He may have dad's skills, but I have his brains.

It all started a year after his disappearance...

I was wandering around Eli's room aimlessly when I had heard a creak under my foot. Now I know most floors creaked, but it was strange, as my father had put in the hardwood himself, and this house has never once creaked in all my 14 years of living here. The creak, in fact, was so curious to me, that I got down on my hands and knees, and felt all around on the floor. Seamless. Perfect.
I stood and jumped on the floorboard that had made the sound, and swore I felt it move. I got back down on my hands and knees and felt the floor again. This time the single floor board stuck out from the floor a bit. Bingo.
I shimmied the board a bit, before finally freeing it from it's place in the floor. A secret compartment in the floor boards. Who would'a thought? A ripped piece of a note lay inside. The piece read "slugsling", along with some other scratched off words that led to the edge it was ripped from. It didn't make sense. I then remembered Eli wasn't the only child in this family, so there must be some sort of secret in my room. I popped the wooden board back into place and ran to my room, locking the door. My mom couldn't know what I was doing, because she might try to stop me... No one was going to stop me from finding my best friend.
I had no friends at school, due to the fact that I always stuck with Eli. He knew his way around the school and his friends were pretty cool. They all treated me like a sister. When he disappeared, they all tried to comfort me, but the only one who could really ever comfort me was Eli. I had first thought he was at his friend's house, but when he never came back I started to think worse. It was too hard to believe he was dead. I eventually came to the conclusion that he'd run away, although I didn't fully believe that either.
The first places I checked were the ones I thought were off ever since living there, but with no luck. I thought about where my dad would hide it, he was super clever. I wondered, would he be smart enough to hide a floorboard compartment in the same place he hid the one in Eli's room, knowing full well I wouldn't check there because it was so obvious?
I opened my door a bit and peeked out, and hearing my mother singing in the kitchen downstairs, snuck back into Eli's room. I counted the floor boards from one of the walls all the way to the compartment, which ended up being 7.
I snuck back into my room, closing my door behind me, and counted the floorboards from the same wall and kneeled next to the one I guessed was it. I remember asking myself, did he want me to find it? Of course he did. If he didn't he wouldn't have hid it so obviously in my room, knowing I'd find it eventually.
I knocked on the floorboard, and to my satisfaction, heard a hollow sound. I started jumping on the floorboard to loosen it, when my mother yelled up the stairs.
"Ciara!! What on earth are you doing up there!?" She exclaimed.
"Nothing mom! Just dancing!" I had hollered back. She must have taken that as an answer, because I didn't hear anything else out of her after that. I returned my attention back to the floorboard, and kneeled down next to it. I was able to pop it open, and sure enough, there was a note. It read as follows:

Dear Ciara,
If you are reading this, it means I am no longer there to tell you myself. It's my duty as a Shane to protect this underground world called SlugTerra. That's why I disappeared for days at a time without explanation. Depending on when you get this message I was suppose to bring Eli down to teach him how to protect SlugTerra because when I can no longer protect it, he will have to step in for me. I know that if your reading this, I will already be gone. This is for you to know where he went. You have the less dangerous job. This code W00J-LS01 will open a secret passage that leads to the s_c__i_y_o_m (I couldn't make out the word as some of the letter's were faded). In your closet there's another secret compartment under the shelf, open it, then flick the switch. A key pad will pop up, type the pass code. Watch over him Ciara.

Slugterra? What does he mean underground world? It didn't make any sense. I read the rest but it had just explained what to do and how to turn on the monitors. I wondered if I should do what the note read. I told myself my father would've said "it's my duty as a Shane" to listen to the note. He had always said silly things like that. I opened my closet and checked under the shelf. To my surprise, there was another compartment. I had mentally slapped myself for not knowing of it's existence before. It was a lot of work to hide it from mom though... I wondered if she knew or if father was protecting her this way..
I flicked the switch and another compartment opened automatically, revealing a keypad with both numbers and letters. I typed in W00J-LS01, but the keypad had just groaned dismissively. I read the note a couple times over and thought that was exactly what he wrote. I assumed I had typed it wrong. Although when I tried it again, it made the same sound. I wondered "What could be wrong? Had he changed it and had just forgotten to tell me? No, it's dad, it's got to be some ingenious play on words... And numbers. Maybe upside down?" After that, I realized W00J kinda looked like 'ROOM' upside down. And LS01 looked a bit like LOST. Together had it read Lost Room. It seemed very far-fetched at the time, but I decided to test it anyway.
I typed in lost room and... The keypad sang in approval. A large door at the back of my closet, remember its only a small wardrobe, opened as I stood frozen in astonishment. I stepped inside and walked down what I had presumed to be the secret passage dad wrote about.
At the end, I stepped out into a dark room, and as soon as I did, all the lights in the room flicked on while a computerized voice said "Welcome Ciara!" An entire wall of monitors booted up, and I saw a mystical world with, strange plants and animals I'd never seen before.
Each one of the monitors showed a different location and a couple even showed what looked to be a house. A really messy house might I add. None of them seemed to change despite how long I stood there and waited. I read over the instructions from dad's note again to see if I had done it right, then ran my hand through my hair, confused and defeated.
I glanced around the room, and my eye caught a folio cabinet. I approached it and, I'm digging through it, found more handwritten instructions to this whole room situation. One part specifically said that if an unidentified subject were to enter, an alarm would ring in the space, and in a special earpiece I could wear to be aware of a possible break-in.
The room itself had no windows, so the only entrance/exit was through my closet, which I had assumed was troublesome to find based on how long it took me to find it. As I'm reading through the instructional booklet, I had suddenly heard a voice... A voice I recognized.
That voice was very dear to me... Eli's voice. I desperately checked and searched through all the monitors looking for him, when I caught his raveny, deep blue hair. He appeared to be in the garage of the house some of the monitors depicted. Eli was addressing a mole-like creature with the name Pronto. I remember thinking, in a that exact moment; Where is Eli? Who was Pronto? What is this place? And how do I get there?
