Chapter 8
"So we're cool?" Dan asks me the next day at lunch.
"Yeah, we're cool."
"Good, so how is the triangle going?"
"For now there seems to be peace on all fronts."
"Very good, so when are you meeting up with the chick with a boy's name?"
"You mean Chris?"
"Yeah, what ever, Frank, Bill, Chris."
"Very funny. We're going out on Friday to the Starbucks in the mall."
"Cool, you want me to stop by?"
"For God sake's no."
"Just kidding." Theresa comes and sits down next to me, grabbing one of my French fries and eating it.
"Our boy here has his first date."
She asks me when and where, and I fill her in on the details. She asks me, "So what are you going to wear?"
"I don't know. I didn't think about it."
"How about your school uniform?" Dan says.
"Or your Tae Kwon Do uniform," Theresa adds.
"Very funny. I don't know. Jeans, and my blue shirt," I say as I reach over and take one of Dan's fries. Today the fries are actually decent and have a nice salty crunch to them. I pick up a few more and jam them in my mouth.
"Oh no, that's ugly," Theresa says.
"It is?"
"Yeah, sorry."
"Well, then maybe my jeans and the yellow polo?" I look at Dan's fries and try to spot a small one. I see a little one off to the side and grab it.
They both say in unison, "No."
"Great, I don't know." I put the french fry in my mouth.
"You want to borrow some of my clothes," Dan asks.
Theresa breaks in and says, "No, don't do that."
"Hey," Dan says defensively.
"You need my help?" Theresa asks.
"I guess I do," I say.
"I'll come by your house and look through your clothes. You want me to come by tonight?" she asks.
"Sure, that would be great," I say. After we set up a time, she grabs another French fry and goes to different table with some of her friends.
"Dougie boy, that was well played," Dan says.
"What do you mean?"
"You're going to score with Theresa tonight and then Bill on Friday."
"It's Chris. Me and Theresa are just friends."
"Sure you are, sure you are," he says laughing.
The period ends, and then off to my classes and then Tae Kwon Do. On the way home, I text back and forth with Chris to see how she's doing, then head to the gym. I pull my bike up to the school, and I don't see Master Lee's SUV in the back in his usual space. I walk in, and Jane and Adam are already are stretching on the mat.
"Where's Elvis?" I ask, referring to Master Lee.
"He's left the building."
"Where did he go?"
