Chapter 1

Lucy's early for her class today. As she always is. She was seated perfectectly and her posture showed how much she wanted to learn.

Or so every kid that past by her thought. They were always annoyed with her and gave her these meaningless looks.

Lucy never got bothered by them though, she just thought that they were jealous. Math was one of her favorite subjects of all. Yes, yes, rather unusual for a student to like math, but she did. She always passed her marking periods with straight 90s.

She paid attention, always took notes, and was especially eager to learn something new. All of her teachers really like her. Her way of doing things was unique and different. Lucy never wants to be in the "in crowd" or even once thought about becoming "popular". Those things never really cross her mind. All were just pointless - don't really matter to her.

Eventhough she never really did anything to become "popular", she was. Every single one of her clasmates were at fault here. They disliked her, talked about her with their so-called friends, and with that in mind...everyone started to notice her. Lucy hates the attention in school, especially the bad kind.

"Lucy!" Someone called out.

Lucy turned her head back, "Yeah."

"There's this boy that likes you," admitted her friend, Gabriella.

Gabriella was from Italy. She had long, brown, straight hair that she always let hang loose. Her chubbiness showed, but she seemed to never mind it. Lucy has been friends with Gabriella for the whole year in fourth grade.

Lucy just looked at her, with a surprised face, "Who?"

Gabriella stuck out her index finger and pointed, "Him!"

Lucy gazed in the direction of Gabriella's finger and fixated her eyes on the boy. His name was Terry. He had short, curly, dark brown hair and his eyes were as dark as black. He wasn't really what Lucy liked, so she just turned back to Gabby; her friend's famous nickname.

"I don't like him!" Lucy complained, a grouchy pout appearing onto her small, not fazed, face.

Gabby frowned, "I thought you would."

"No." Lucy said, straightforwardly, crossing her arms against her chest childishly.

"Oh, fine," Gabby said.

They had both been in the school's cafeteria.

Lucy smiled to herself, glancing downward towards the desk. So many great memories always shot through her mind, making her happy with a mixture of sadness; it also reminded her of the present.

That memory was of one involving "popularity"; back then she was even more "popular". But, she didn't know that. All she ever did was get into lots of trouble for sleeping during class, never truly paying attention, or even talking back to the teachers; Lucy did what ever she wanted.

For that, she had always gotten hit by her Mom, countless times...

"Lucy," called her teacher, Ms. Simon.

Lucy brought her attention back to class, "Yes, Ms. Simon."

"May you demonstrate this problem to every single one of your classmates on the board?" Her teacher asked, gesturing toward the blackboard.

"Yes, of course ," Lucy responded, respectfully. She got up, out of her desk, and made her way infront of the board. Grabbing the chalk, she started solving the problem that the teacher had put up there as demonstration while she had been daydreaming.
