Pre-Note: so I've had this idea for a really long time but never wrote about it until now, which is actually terrible timing, because people probably think I wrote this in reply to the Anthony/Kalel proposal. :P But I didn't, I swear. As much as I wish Anthony would have proposed to Ian instead, I'm still really happy for them ^_^ So yeah, I'm obsessed with this song and this is really stupid but yeah okay I'll get back to writing TSTR tomorrow :) Oh, and a PG fic by me?! It's a first, I know xD
Gay rights.
They've been an issue around this lovely country of America for years on end.
I just didn't get it. Why was it such a big deal? I mean, love is love. Who cares about such a stupid thing as gender? I don't know. Maybe it was just because I had been dating my best friend and love of my life for six years and wanted desperately to marry him, or maybe I just supported all kinds of love. But all these gay rights laws were really getting me worked up.
So, the day the law finally passed for gay marriage to be legal in my home state of Califrornia, I instantly knew what I had to do.

"Good morning," I whispered when Ian's eyes finally peered open in the hotel bed next to me. We were in Los Angeles to film some Smosh stuff, but had gotten here a day early to just hang out in the city.
He groaned a little, then smiled. "Good morning."
I rubbed his bare back, and he leaned over to kiss me lightly on the lips.
"Get up," I ordered, standing up to reveal that I was already dressed and ready for the day. "We have a very important day ahead of us."
He sat up too, raising an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
I smiled. "Let's just say... it's my mission to make today the best day of your life."

Once we were both ready and in the car, I turned to him. "Alright, where are we going for lunch?"
He scrunched his eyebrows together. "What?"
"It's your day. Where do you wanna go?"
"Um, I don't know... Where do you wanna go?"
I laughed. "No. You choose."
"Uh, okay." He scratched the back of his neck. How about... Olive Garden?"
I shrugged. "Sounds good to me."
I was really trying to control the shaking in my voice, the butterflies in my stomach, but I just couldn't help but be extremely nervous. I felt the weight of the box pressing against my thigh, and I swallowed hard. There wasn't really anything to be worried about; I knew he would say yes. We'd talked about how badly we wanted to get married since basically we first started dating. And now that it was legal, we finally could.

After an amazing Olive Garden lunch, a walk around the city, and a day of relaxing on the beach, it was finally time. My stomach flipped upside-down at the thought of it and my head spun, but there was no way I was backing down now.
I stood up from where we were sitting on the sand, watching the sun as it was just beginning to descend. Ian looked at me questioningly, and I reached my hand out. He grabbed it sort of hesitantly, and I only smiled reassuringly, saying "Let's go for a walk."
So, just as the beach emptied and then sun slowly fell next to us, we paced along the part of the beach where our feet just barely hit the cool, refreshing water, hand in hand. We didn't talk that much, really only because my mouth was so dry. I was so nervous, and I didn't know why. There was no reason to.
