imani crossed her right leg over the left and folded her hands over her stomach as she watched the rest of her class have a discussion. she hated her college classes; not so much because of the material but because of the students that were there. everyone was grouped up with the races they identified with-- the hispanics all grouped together and the white's grouped together and anyone else who's complexion slightly looked like the other worked in a group together.

aside from the people, imani liked her fashion marketing classes. but being at a school like that, you'd think her classes were culturally diverse. it was only the second week of classes so she was hoping for new people to join. it's not that the people in her class didn't like her, because they did tell her she was pretty and they liked her outfit-- they just identified with each other and not her. it was understandable though.

she quickly grabbed her things once the professor had dismissed class and was the first one to exit. during the ride back to her condo her bestfriend of nine years-- valentina called her.

"when it comes down to what i'm learning, i like my classes but as for being social and having friends? not so much." she shrugged to herself, answering her question. she got out of the car and grabbed her bag from the back seat before locking it.

"it's not like you don't have us." valentina said referring to their other three friends. "we're just an hour away from you."

imani made her way up to her condo, gripping onto her bag that hung on her shoulder. "i know but you guys have classes too, you can't just come see me when you please." she sighed.

"imani? hey!" she turned around to see sam standing in the parking lot waving at her. his only had on a pair of sweats, a v neck and nike slides.

"i'll call you back." she spoke into the phone before ending the call. she slowly walked back down the stairs to meet sam. "hey."

"just getting back from class, yeah?" he asked a question which he already knew the answer to. his buddy nate had told him she goes to class at the college thirty minutes away from here but he didn't know what she studied.

"uh, yeah. how'd you know?" she asked and shoved her hand in the back pocket of her jeans.

"i-uh, your bag. i just made sense." he chuckled lightly.

"oh, yeah. obviously." she laughed.

he thought for a moment, not really knowing what to say to keep the conversation going. "what do you study?" he finally spoke.

"fashion marketing." she answered.

"oh really? that's really cool. seriously." he smiled.

"yeah. i didn't expect you to be here today." imani said.

"i didn't either, but nate had some new music to show me a-and yeah. that's why i'm here, haha."

"music?"

"yeah. we make music. maybe you can come over and listen some time?" sam suggested and put his hand in the pocket of his sweatpants. imani raised her eyebrows and bit down on her bottom lip.

"well no. uh, i can give you a link or something you don't have to come over." he said quickly.

"no, that sounds cool. just tell me when." imani smiled.
