I slammed my empty glass down on the counter, catching the bartender's attention. "Another refill?" His eyes locked with mine, and I let my pupils dilate. "For free, right?" His lips curved up into a smile, and all he did was nod before obeying me. My face scrunched up and grimaced as I felt my throat burn after chugging down whatever he had given to me. I had lost count of what kind of alcohol I was currently drinking, but it didn't bother me. It wasn't like a I could die from alcohol poisoning or anything of that kind. One of the benefits when it comes to being more or less dead. I almost missed getting sick though, as the life I lived was quite a bore. Sure, immortality had been exciting the first fifty years or so, but spending an eternity by drinking your problems away doesn't seem too appealing now, does it?

I scoffed as I saw Ross, a friend if you will, sitting down beside me. "Want to grab a snack?" He sent me a cocky grin which caused me to frown. "I do not find joy in killing the innocent." He ignored my comment, and rambled on about how tasty some chick he was eyeing seemed to be. Suddenly, my phone began buzzing in my pocket and I picked it up without looking at who was calling. I automatically assumed that it would be Giselle, Ross's sister who was worried about him. He would run away from her constantly and she'd have to roam the streets looking for him every night. I didn't really blame him though, as she was very high maintenance and overprotective. They were younger than me, both around 90 years old, while I was 198 if I recall correctly. I kind of saw them as my siblings, since my family had died in the 1800th century.

"Are you calling to put me out of my misery?" I referred to her getting Ross away from me, as she knew how annoying I could find him to be at times. "Not quite, love. Have you missed me that much?" My eyes widened and I immediately spit out my drink when I heard the British accent. Ross turned to me with an arched eyebrow, and I signaled for him to be quiet. "Quite the contrary, Niklaus." I could hear him chuckle. "Feisty, as always," he commented, which caused me to roll my eyes. "Cut to the chase, will you?" I was watching my friend as I spoke, seeing his eyebrows furrow together while trying to comprehend who I could be talking to. He wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. "Remember that favor you owed me, darling?" I sighed while rubbing my temples. "That was a century ago, Klaus." How he even had my number was beyond me. As I once again uttered his name, Ross's eyes finally lit up with both realization and fear. "Well, I've run in to a complication and I need your assistance, love. I think it's the perfect way for you to repay your debt." I could practically hear him smiling, and I thought about what he had said for a moment. "Text me the details and your location," I sighed before abruptly hanging up.

"Klaus? You've never told me that you knew him!" Giselle was pacing around our cramped flat. I had owned it for more than a hundred years. "You hadn't even been born when I saw him the last time. I haven't considered my relation to him to be a relevant topic," I defended, my hands in the air. "He's the most dangerous vampire in existence, Karma!" I zipped my fully packed suitcase shut while listening to her. "Hybrid," I corrected, which I knew didn't make the situation better. "Exactly! He's even more dangerous than before! You're not doing this," she sternly told me. "What's going to stop me? If I don't do it, he'll see that as a betrayal and he'll most definitely kill us all." She bit her lip at a loss for words. I turned
to Ross who was sitting on the floor while watching the situation unravel. "Take care of each other, Rossie. I'll probably be back in a month, or two."

And with those words, I left my apartment and headed to my car. My life had actually gained some sort of purpose again, which was a shameful delight that I wouldn't admit to anyone. It made me feel pathetic, but yet happy. I had barely done anything with my life in fifty years, so this was going to be interesting.
