"Now!"

Another explosion shook the mine. They were close.

"Come on Men! The king will have your heads if we don't give him what he wants! And that's wealth! Keep going!"

There was another explosion. Giddeon Dahlberg wiped the sweat off his forehead. They had to be close to something...anything!

"Again!"

He pushed another button and ducked down once more before someone cried out.

"Guys, I see something!"

"What is it, Steven?"

"I don't know...It looks like a cave full of...purple! The hole is too small!"

"Keep chipping at it, make it larger!" The officer shouted.

Two hours of solid work led them to find a cavern that led to a huge geode of purple crystals. "So much Amethyst...alright men! Mine all that you can!"

Giddeon sighed and raised his pickaxe before stopping. Ancient marks were scrawled on each stone. Protection runes...He thought, having known the basics of how to read magic symbols from his friend. He froze as the first pickaxe struck a rune. The crystal vibrated and sent a large pitch throughout the geode.

All was silent.

Suddenly the cave rumbled and crystals began to move and take shape into large monsters. They roared and began to attack the miners. All except Giddeon. He looked away from his comrads who being torn apart. A crystal monster came up to him, snarling and nashing its teeth when it suddenly stopped and backed away, turning back into the purple rock it had come from.

Giddeon was panting in shock and fear when a faint glow caught his attention. He looked towards it and saw a bright purple gem sitting on a pedestal giving off a small hum. He went over to it, curious as to what it could be. He gently picked it up, the glowing fading and the room growing silent. He rushed out of the mine, trying to block out everuthing he had just saw.

~~~
"You there! Why aren't you at your post?!" A squid officer shouted at him as he emerged from his tunnel.
"S-sorry sir, I rushed to tell you that there was..." he bit his lip. Should he tell? "A huge cave in. All the others are dead. I was the last surviver."
The squid officer punched the wall. "Great! Just great!" He growled while the officer beside him rolled his eyes.
"You hurt?"
"A little, sir."
"Fine. Go fence the mine off then go home." He said.
Giddeon nodded and rushed to get his job done, the gem glowing brightly in his pocket.
~~~~

"Gidd? Darling? Is that you?"

"Yes dear." He said setting the gem on the table.

His wife, Elle, came out of the kitchen. "But why? You weren't..."

"No my dear. I'm fine. Just a little accident in the mines." He answered tiredly, sitting down.

"Oh that's good, dear. Do-" She stopped as she saw the gem. "What is that?" She asked.

Giddeon chuckled. "You'd think me crazy if I told you."

"No I wouldn't, my dear. Just tell me." She sitting sitting beside him and kissing his cheek. So Giddeon recited the story, his wife listening deeply.

"My word...how dreadful." She said. "What will you do with it?"

"I'm not sure, to be honest." he said, scratching his head.

She sighed. "Well, until then, you need to eat and rest. Come on."

~~~~
Giddeon woke up as a bright purple light shone though a crack in his door. He sat up, waking Elle in the process before going down stairs. He gasped as he saw the gem levitating in the air, certain objects circling around it. He shielded his eyes as it grew brighter. Elle came beside him and gasped.
"What is it doing!?" She asked, shielding her eyes as well.
"I-I don't know!" He cried out.
The gem began to sprout a small human silhouette made of light with the gem in the middle of the chest before dropping it on the ground. Giddeon and Elle looked up and gasped as a child laid there in front of them. He was a curly haired brunet wearing a black shirt with bright yellow shorts. The child looked about three or so. It began to grt up and look at them with bright purple and Yellow eyes. The gem was showing in the middle of his chest. He grinned and let out an adorable squeal.
"Oh Giddeon, it's...it's adorable!" She squealed running in front of him and picking the child up. "We can keep him as our son, just like we always wanted!" She said as the child giggled.
Giddeon smiled and was about to agree when there was pounding on the door. The child stopped and looked at the door, tilting his head slightly.
He opened the door and stood back as a squid officer barged in. "I saw a strange light from here. What are you up to?!" he snapped.
"S-Sir! W-we were just...playing with our son!" He said taking the child from his wife's arms nervously.
The squid officer seemed skeltical as he looked around the house. He sighed and looked at Giddeon. "Fine. I'll take my leave, then." He said, leaving them with their 'son' who just grinned up at his 'father' happily.
Elle smiled. "So...we can adopt him?" She grinned.
"I guess we have to now." He sighed rubning his head. She grinned and took the boy from his arms.
"I think I'll name you...Sky." She said happily. Sky squeaked in approval. She grinned and took him upstairs, leaving Giddeon with his thoughts and the mess.
"What have I gotten myself into?" He groaned.
