Once upon a time there was a girl. She had ugly stepsisters and an ugly stepmother, who would never had dreamed of letting her go to the ball. However, Cinder's fairy godmother came to the rescue, whisking her off to the ball with one condition: she must return when the clock struck midnight. When she arrived at the ball and the prince saw her, it was love at first sight. They had the first dance together, but it was too bad the clock struck twelve. As Cinder tried to run away, she lost one shoe, but it was too late to get it back. Wearing only one shoe, she ran to her makeshift carriage and made it home in the nick of time. With his true love gone, the prince searched high and low for her. The only sign that she had ever existed was a single glass slipper, but no one fit the shoe. Just as the prince began to doubt, he arrived at the final house, which was decidedly normal-looking. He was certain this was the one, as it was the last one left, but the two girls tried the shoe and neither of them fit in it. He had lost all hope, and was preparing to leave with a broken heart, when a beautiful young woman came down the stairs. The prince was elated. It was sure to be her! And it was. The shoe fit, and the prince and his true love lived happily ever after.

Chapter 1

Cinder's POV

God, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! Darn shoes! I'm supposed to be at my stepmother's café but I'm running late because I had detention and school ended late. If it wasn't for my stinking detention, I wouldn't be late. This is all because I wrote in pencil and not pen like I was supposed to.

"CINDER! WHY ARE YOU LATE?!" Man, my stepmother has one strong pair of lungs. Sheesh. The adjoining street could probably hear her. "You were supposed to be here ten minutes ago!" "Yes, mum. I know. It won't happen again."

"Well, what are you waiting for? Get to work!" If I worked extra hard, I would probably get a lesser punishment. If that even makes sense.

The next day...

Do you ever get that feeling where you know something is going to happen to you but you don't know what? Well, that happened to me when I woke up today. When I went to school today there was the normal popular group and the tall, muscular jocks with the stick-body sluts. They were in front of my locker. Why did this always happen to me? Luckily at least they weren't making out like usual, FML, the warning bell rang, and they're still blocking my locker.

Finally! They left, but only because they need to go to class as well. Lucky me.(note the sarcasm) Because my first class is all the way to the other side of the school I have to use my werewolf speed to get there in time. Oh, did I mention I'm a werewolf and so is my family and entire pack? Thank God there were no humans around or else I would've broken the law.

Yes! I didn't get detention!

After class finishes, I go straight to my locker to get all my books. Who knows when the popular kids will come there again? English. It's so boring. But I might as well get it over and done with now. Oh, did I mention that we're going to have a ball? Or, as people call it these days, a dance?

All the girls in this school are trying to get the perfect dress for the pack's soon-to-be alpha Hayden Conti. It's a masquerade ball so nobody knows that's where everyday sluts and invisible, bullied nerds go and find love and mates. Because the soon-to-be alpha has just turned eighteen, he can find his mate now. All the geeks, nerds, troublemakers, weirdos, skaters, dramatic people, musical people, and your everyday sluts have been talking about it. Obviously, they're hoping that they will be the special one. And guess who else wants to be the one: my stepsisters. Sheesh, am I the only smart one here? It's just a boy. Man, and here I was thinking that I was the romantic person.

Anyway, I'm just texting my friend because all the English teachers give us really big lectures about how good writing is and how cool English could be for us right now.

~How's English?~

~Ugh. I can't believe the school hires ppl like this. Sheesh.~

~Well at least u don't have to constantly hear about how hot Hayden is, with his big, muscular biceps and abs to die for, and some inappropriate stuff that should be R-rated, from the mushy gushy nerds. I mean, seriously! Shouldn't they be doing math or something nerdy like that?~

~Lol 2 bad 4 u~

That was my friend Mitzi. She's like the only person besides me who hates Hayden. Well, we don't exactly hate Hayden. We're just annoyed that he is the only thing everyone talks about.

At lunch, I run- well, fast-walk- to the cafeteria because I'm so hungry. What, I'm a wolf! What do you expect? Anyway, it's fish and chips. How English. But then again, we do have a British cook. So we're used to it. Mitzi and I take our table; the one at the far corner. Even if it's boiling outside, we like to stay inside. It's better. What if it rains in the winter? It's better inside, and plus, outside is where Hayden and his crew are sitting. Hayden's best friend sits with us most of the time because he's Mitzi's mate- lucky her! I have to be honest- I'm a bit jealous, but I won't let that get to me. I'll find him when I find him.

Mitzi's mate and Hayden's best friend Liam shows up and sits by us. He's the joker type. That's why he and I are best friends, but we aren't as close as him and Hayden. "Hey," he say. Mitzi and I both say, "Hey" back. "So I heard the dance is coming up next week. Want to go with me,, Mitzi?" he says. "Sure," Mitzi replies.

After lunch it's gym, and I score us some goals. We're playing soccer; boys against girls. So you can guess who's winning: obviously the boys. Most girls complain about their gym uniforms, but I don't mind. It's a little revealing, but still comfy. Ugh, I have French after this, then FREEDOM!! At the end of the school day I'm tired, but I have to work, so by the real end of the day, I'm asleep on my bed. That's when I have the strangest dream...
