John worked part time at the dollar theatre.
Sherlock worked part time at the carnival.
Each day, they walked up the hill.
Sherlock's stop was first, at the very top.
John's stop was next, a few blocks down and around the corner.
John's shift ended a little earlier than Sherlock's, so he always bought himself a carnival snack and waited by the gates.
Every Friday, John got his paycheck.
And every Tuesday, Sherlock got his.
It was never all that much, but they made ends meet, even if that meant micromanaging the heater.
