I'll Do Anything

Chapter 6

After dinner, we went back to Steven's house.

We walked in and heard," Steven? Come here, Stacey's here!" Says Mrs. Punter.

He looked at me and then brought me to the kitchen. The girl, who I assume is Stacey, jumps up and hugs Steven. He holds her tightly," What are you doing here, Stac?" He says, letting her go.

She smiles," We're on vacation here, oh my gosh, you look so different!"

He smiles," I finally hit puberty!"

" No more glasses, your taller! Wow you've changed so much!"

Mrs. Punter says," Why don't you guys go downstairs into the basement?"

Stacey says," Oh the great ol'basement!"

Steven laughs," We've decorated it! Pool table, carpet!"

She gasps," Awesome!"

As they start to walk down, I

say," Steven, I'm going to go."

" No Ray, I'm sorry."

" No, it's fine, I don't care. Have fun."

" Raini, please stay. You two have a lot in common."

" Alright." He takes ny hand and leads me downstairs.

We all sit on the couch. Stacey says," I remember the countless parties down here!"

I shot a glare to Steven," Parties? Really?"

I'm getting a but mad, how come I've never heard of this girl or was invited to these parties? Steven and I had been friends for years.

He smiles.

I get up," Sorry Stacey, I'm intterupting, have a good time. Bye."

Steven calls out after me," Raini, come on."

As I get on the stairs, I stop when I hear Stacey ask," Who's that?!"

He answers bitterly," My girlfriend."

I quietly gasp then continue up the stairs. I go outside and get into my car. I feel tears stream down my face. I was actually starting to like like Steven. I was falling for him. I guess he wanted what he couldn't have. He wanted me, he couldn't have me. Now he does and he sees he doesn't want me. It's raining and I start to pull out. I drive home.

Once back to home, I put on pjs and watch a movie. I decide to text Steven and break up. I think its for the best, and he doesn't even like me. He thought he did but he didn't. We're better off as friends, and only friends. I text:

Steven, I want to breakup.

I sent it and then throw my phone across the room.

I open my eyes and see my tv on. I'm laying on the couch and its dark out. I must've fell asleep. I can hear the rain droplets hitting the roof and the windows. I also hear a knock at the front door. I look at the time, midnight.

I get up and go to the door. I open it and see Steven. He says," Ray, I've called you fifty times and texted you so many times!"

I stay silent but then step outside. I don't want to let him in. I feel the cold rain hit my skin and it actually feels cool. He continues," Wh-Why do you want to b-breakup?!"

" You don't like me!"

" Yes I do, I love you."

" No you don't, I heard you talk to Stacey. You said ' My girlfriend' and you sounded so bitter!"

" I was a bit mad, but I do love you."

" No, no."

" Ray, baby. Please don't."

I'm not sure if he's crying or he's just wet. I'm almost soaked.

He puts his hand on my arm," Raini.."

" We're better off as friends, Steven. We've been bestfriends ever since I could remember."

" Raini, please."

" I just need some time."

" Is that all?"

" I don't know."

" I love you, Raini."

" Goodnight, Steven."

" Night."

" I..I'll drive myself to school tomorrow."

" Okay. Will you please call me, later?"

" Why?"

" Nevermind." He turned and left.

I went back inside and changed into dry clothes.

In the morning--

I woke up, got ready then went to school.

I walked through the hallway and stopped at my friend Katryn's locker. I smiled," Hey Kathryn, I was wondering if you wanted to hangout after school today?"

She nodded," Hey, um yeah sounds fun."

" Great!"

" Yeah, we've never hung out before, this'll be fun."

" Yeah." Just then Steven walks by. I try not to look at him.

" What's going on with you two?"

" We broke up."

" What? No, Raini..."

" What?"

" You guys...I've waited forever for him to finally tell you."

" Tell me that he likes me?"

" Yeah, everyone knew. It's so obvious. What happened?"

" I just want to be friends."

" Oh."

" Well Kathryn, honestly. I got nervous, things started to get serious really quickly and last time I was in a serious relationship I got cheated on."

" Awh, but Ray, can I call you that?"

I nodded.

" Steven, he would never."

" I know, I just never felt this way."

" Right, I understand."

" I have to go."

" I'll see you in class."

" Yeah." I turn and go to my locker. I start to un-pack when I hear someone behind me. I shut my locker then turn around. Steven.

I take a deep breath," Hi."

" Hey."

" What do you want?"

" I just wanted to talk."

" I said I needed time, give me some."

" Raini, I just-"

" Steven! This...us...we're over."

" Officially?" He said quietly.

I nodded," I just can't do this."

" Do what?"

" I don't like you."

" Raini..." He took a deep breath. I looked to the ground. He walked off. Class started and I'm probably going to get a detention. I'm not in the mood for school. I walk down stairs and out of the school.

The reason I broke up with Steven was because he's my bestfriend. I can't be in-love with my bestfriend. I just can't. He deserves so much better than me. Him and I are supposed to be bestfriends, not boyfriend and girlfriend, right? I just don't know. He needs to move on. He's been in love with me for so long. Steven needs to go find a sweet girl and get married. He doesn't want me, he thinks he does but he doesn't. He wants what he can't have and thats me, but he still wants me. But he doesn't want. He doesn't. Right? I just don't know.

As I walk across the street, with tears in my eyes, I hear a car screech. Then my vision is blacked out and I'm falling to the ground.
