A/N: I don't know if I want this as Lacy or not...thoughts?
I have gotten a lead role at Haywood Community Theatre exactly once. It was 8 years ago when I was 7 and in a play called "Dogs". I had your basic dog name, Rover, and I had no concept of what a showmance was. Of course I wouldn't though, you're usually introduced to the game "Showmance" when you're in middle school school and you actually get nominated for one when you're in high school. Now I'm 15, a sophomore, and I have been in over 13 plays at Haywood Theatre...not once getting nominated for a showmance. I don't know whether to be enthralled or disappointed with that fact. In middle school, the older kids would always tell us stories backstage or during rehearsals about the showmances. I distinctly remember one about a 16 year old girl named Alexis who truly fell in love with her showmace partner, Ollie. The key words there were that she fell in love with him. That was a one way street she went down because Ollie didn't like Alexis the way she liked him. He was a phenomenal actor and somehow Alexis didn't realize he didn't reciprocate her feelings until the show was over—and so were they. Maybe that's why I should be glad I haven't been nominated, no heart break in the end. But part of me has always wanted the thrill of a showmance. I've never had a boyfriend before—as if that wasn't obvious due to my want of a relationship—even if it's a fake one. I've only ever came close to dating a guy. When people say "We almost dated!" I can relate. I've had my fair share of petty crushes and I know of people who've had them on me. It just seems that anyone who likes me is just plain weird or a douchebag. That's why I think I want to be in a showmance, because every guy at the theatre is great. Well, for the most part anyway. You always have your cocky jerks who think they're perfect, but other than those guys, everyone is dateable. Tomorrow I'm going to audition for the play Shrek Junior. The junior doesn't mean anything except that no adults are in it, only teens and about 5 kids. For my audition song I'm going to sing Freak Flag, since my ideal role is Gingie. I always did think the gingerbread man was funny. Gingie isn't exactly the lead role but she's super funny and everything I want in a character. During the first rehearsal of Shrek is when the rules will be announced to the middle schoolers who've made the cut and also when the nominated showmance is announced. All of this is done privately, of course, none of us would want the director, Ms. Novak, to find out. She'd put a stop to it immediately and never look at us the same again. I really hope some one puts down my name, Lacy Rogers, on the nomination slip.
