My new story! Tell me what you think. Enjoy!
Chapter 1
"Whitney! Wake up! Please!"
"What the hell, Lori stop shaking me." I said rubbing my eyes. I was so tired that they were almost glued shut.
"Whitney, there's something wrong with mommy" Lori said between sobs and gasps of air.
My little sisters short brown hair was messed up, and stuck to her face. It was obvious that she had been crying for a while. When I concentrated on the fear that was in her eyes, I could tell that this was serious.
"Its okay. Just tell me what happened." I said putting my hand on her shoulder.
"Mommy was downstairs, and I heard the door open. I think someone came in the house because she was screaming. It took me hours to wake you up" she explained it the best she could.
"It'll be okay, just go and get me the baseball bat in my closet, I'm going to check it out" I told her
"No Whitney. I'm scared" she said before she burst into tears.
"Shh. Its okay" I wrapped my arms around her and put her face into my shoulder so I could drown out the noise. My long dirty blond hair brushed over her back as I rocked her back and forth. "It'll be fine, but you have to be quiet, understand?" I asked.
She shook her head and wiped the tears off her face with her hand.
I took the baseball bat out of my closet and we put on a pair of light shoes, then quietly made our way to the top of the staircase.
"You have to stay here" I whispered to her.
"Okay" she sniffed and backed into a corner.
I slowly started creeping my way to the staircase. When I stepped on the first stair, it made a loud creek. My blood ran cold for a second when Lori let out a small gasp. I still kept going.
I was about halfway down the stairs, and I could see the hallway from here. sure enough, the door was open. I planted my feet at the bottom of the staircase and peered back up at Lori who was waiting at the top.
I had to creep around the corner to get to the living room. The hallway was dark, there was only a reading lamp in the living room that was turned on.
I was about to turn the corner to the living room, when I heard a little splash, as if I had stepped in a puddle. The floor was wet? I didn't notice because its so dark.
I bent over and touched the substance on the floor with my finger. When my eyes adjusted to the dark, my horrifying discovery was that the "puddle" was actually blood.
"Mom?" I said in a shaky voice
I didn't get any response.
"Mom, are you okay?" I said a little louder.
This time, I didn't get an exact response, but I heard what seemed to be a growl.
I turned the corner and I was standing in an ocean of blood.
The light of the dim lamp revealed a moving figure, that I'm pretty certain is my mom.
"Mom, what the hell is this?" I said as she started to rise to her feet. "Is this a joke?"
I made my way over to her, I was kind of angy. Why would she scare us like that? Lori is practically losing her mind, and my mom is playing practical jokes on us.
"You're a sick, twisted woman" I said.
I grabbed her by the shoulder and spun her around to face me. I was about to lay out some real harsh words on her. But instead, the only thing I did was scream.
It looked like someone had been eating her, because her innards were hanging out. I felt nauseous, and I was almost certain that I was going to collapse.
Then I remembered that Lori was waiting for me at the top of the stairs.
My mom started making her way towards me, growling and snapping at me.
"Mom, am I in trouble or something?"
I had my hand on the wall, fumbling for the light switch and trying to keep myself from slipping in the blood at the same time.
I slipped at the end of the hall, and my mom jumped on top of me.
"No! Get off me!" I screamed, and then kicked her off me. I looked to my side and saw that Lori was standing right beside me. I grabbed her by the wrist, and ran out the door which was already wide open.
"I told you to wait" I said.
We reached the open street, which seemed almost deserted.
"I grabbed these" Lori pulled out two of my pocketknives.
"Okay, you keep this one" I told her as she handed me the other.
All of a sudden something came up behind Lori and grabbed her. She started screaming and flailing her little arms. I ran over and stabbed it in the back. The thing let go, but it didn't die. I just took Lori's hand and started to run again. We stopped when we thought we were safe.
"What the hell is going on?" I said wiping sweat off of my forehead.
Lori didn't answer. She just looked off into the direction we just came from.
"It'll be okay" I said, thinking she misses our mom.
"No, look" she said pointing to about a thousand of those "non-people" coming right for us.
"Your screaming must of attracted them" I said in a panicked voice.
"What are we going to do!?" Lori said as she started to panic with me.
"I don't know!" I said about to cry.
Out of nowhere, a car came zooming up the road and came to a halt. The tires screeched, and a guy opened the door.
"Hurry, get in" the guy said.
I didn't hesitate to accept the invitation of possible safety, even though this guy could be a killer or something. I still tossed myself and my sister in the back seat, then he sped off, flicking dirt up behind him.
"Thank you so much." I said. "I thought we were dead meat for sure"
"You have to be more careful" he said.
"So where are you taking us?" I asked.
"Back to the rest of our group, I guess. They're probably going to be pissed at me for bringing kids into our group" he sighed.
"Excuse me? I'm nineteen, I'm not a kid. I can handle myself, thank you."
"Alright, touchy. Anyways, what's your names?"
"I'm Whitney, she's Lori. And yours?"
"I'm Matt. Matt Webb"
