“I’ll drive.” I announced walking towards my blue mustang.

“Oh, you’re actually going to drive?” she said sarcastically.

She was really walking on thin ice.

“Yes, do you have a problem?” I said sliding into the driver’s seat.

She rolled her eyes and slid into the passenger seat next to me.

“Nope.” She said popping the P.

“So, you are going to have to tell me how to get there, I don’t think I remember how to get to jakes house.” I said pulling out of the drive way and out of the neighborhood.

“Got it, take a left at the stoplight.” She told me.

“So who is all going to be at this shin dig?” I ask looking both ways before proceeding through the stop light.

“Ummm, just people from school, Adam and Trent will be there.”

“My old Adam or our friend Adam?” I asked cautiously.

“Friend Adam…” she told me. “Take a right up here.”

I looked over my shoulder before changing lanes and into the turn lane.

“Well I just hope I don’t see old Adam here.” I said while I turned at the stop light.

(If you don’t remember who her ex-boyfriend Adam is look back in the story, it’s closer to the beginning of the story. Nicole talks about him to Caitlin.)

“Did you and him even talk after you guys broke up?” she asked. I glanced at her; she had a worried look on her face.

“No, why?” I asked, why all of a sudden did she care?

She sighed “Just wondering.” She said looking out the window. “You are going to turn left on Bird Street.”

“So uh, he didn’t try to apologize or anything?”

I griped the steering wheel a bit more than necessary. I hate talking about Adam.

“No I told him to leave me the hell alone.”

“Right.” She said. Why is she bringing this up? “The house is the 4th house on the right.” She said.

I pulled up on the curb and put my car in park. It looked like a fairly good amount of people were here.

We both got out of the car and started to walk up to the house. There was a lot of tension between me and Katie and I don’t know why.

We rang the door bell and waited.

The door flung open.

“HEYYYY, Nicky, Katie!” Jake yelled when he opened the door.

“Hi, Jake.” I said and gave him a hug. He hugged back. I looked behind him and Adam and Trent were behind him.

“Hey guys.” I said and gave them both a hug. “I missed you guys!” I said.

Jake led us further into the house. The house reeked of alcohol. 

“Are you drinking tonight?” I asked Katie over the loud music.

“Not if you’re not.” She said.

“I’m driving so no.” I laughed.

She gave me a small smile. What is going on with her?

“Can I get you ladies something to drink?” Jake asked real smoothly.

“No we are not drinking tonight.” I told him with a smile.
