I gazed about the room, enjoying the way the soft blues and gentle greens of the decor before going to pick up Lucas from the crib. Our son was growing so quickly, already easily grabbing his toys and pulling them to him to chew on as he rolls onto his back. At barely four months of age, he was already showing good progress through the milestones of infancy. A little genius, just like his mother Shina. Even the soft aqua-green that showed up in his otherwise deep-brown eyes was completely hers, as was his patient temperament since he rarely ever cried or fussed.
Carrying him out of the room, I quietly walked over and sat him down in Shina's lap, watching the smile that brightened her face. Sometimes I almost felt jealous of my own child but all I had to do was sit next to Shina and everything would be better as I felt her lean against me. That little bit of contact that so many would take for granted, served to remind me how hard I had worked to get to this stop, Shina beside me as we raised a child of our own together. Such a simple word, together, yet it held so much meaning for me.
Pressing a gentle kiss to her soft hair, I rested my head gently atop her own, loving how she fit so perfectly against my side with out son quietly beginning to babble and coo as he rested in her arms. Feeling content, I slowly closed my eyes and let the world fade away until all that remained was me, my wife and our child. At this moment, life was perfect and I was determined to keep it that way. Wrapping an arm around my Shina, I gently pulled her into my lap.
"Would you like to watch a movie today, my love?" I asked her as I fought back a yawn, hearing her soft laughter against my chest.
"How about we just listen to some quiet music so you can take a nap while I read. Then when you are all rested up, we can decide what to do." I didn't need to open my eyes to know she was smiling. I could hear it in here voice.
Kissing the top of her head again, I leaned my head back against the couch. I couldn't help the small frown as I felt her pull away from me, getting up to turn on the music before grabbing her book from a table nearby. It wasn't until she settled back in my lap that my smile returned, wrapping my arms around the two people who were so precious to me. Although even Lucas couldn't compare to the devotion I felt for his mother, my precious Shina who I loved so dearly.
My precious, darling Shina. I live for her.
