A girl, barely more than a child, sits alone. It has been this way for years. She doesn't seem to ever age. She is bored and lonely, but can do nothing about either issue. She has taken up this job to welcome them in. She doesn't have to, really. But she decided she must. I think she may have forgotten that she is not obliged to do this task. But she believes she must, for she had no guidance when she first came and was almost immediately wiped from existence.
Which is not exactly pleasant.
She moves for the first time in months, and lays down on the ground. Her long skirt falls around her, flowing like water. Her legs sprawled out awkwardly beside her, as she doesn't want to sit on her tail. Even though it may not be connected to her physically, the wispy end that flickers and moves like fire isn't very comfortable to deal with. The faint blue light it emits is calming, and she watches it for another year or so, aching from being so alone.
But she is not a stranger to this empty feeling, as she felt just as abandoned in life as in..
Wherever this is.
Then she hears a sound, her oddly shaped ears twitching as it becomes louder. A noise she has not heard for years.
She moves, turns toward the it, and if she still had one, her heart would be pounding like a drum. A scream is a sign of something new, a sign of another being. Then, as suddenly as the sound had appeared, a girl. She is obviously new to this place. She is yelling out, as she doesn't understand. Yet. Finally, someone to greet, welcome, teach. But the lonely girl cannot bring herself to speak.
She instead observes her. She is tall. Sturdy in the middle like a young tree, with tiny branch arms. Slender. The girl was the one who had emitted this sound. The new
person slowly raises her head and locks eyes with the old. What she sees in her eyes- or doesn't- twists the emptiness where her stomach might've been. This time, she is the one who screams.
Oh, how she had wished for another person, but not like this.
