The End

Nothing feels right for me. Just laying there as my husband, my love, is out there, possibly dying or dead. I run my hand down my face, holding back tears.
A humming that sounds like Warbird engines is close by, but I dismiss it.
It's only the wind, I tell myself as I roll over on my side. Then, there's a knock at the door.
"Mrs. Olsteen?" a voice says. "Your husband sent us." At the mention of John, I get up, and bolt to the door.
When I open it, I don't see John, but rather ATLAS Soldiers, fully armed.
"Yes?" I say. "Where is he?"
One of them looks down at his feet, and curls his lower lip. "He went into the ATLAS facility," he says. "We couldn't get him to back out. I'm sorry, ma'am."
I clench a fist. "Ok," is all I manage to say.
"Come with us," they say as a Warbird is landed in front of the house.

I scan the hallways, making sure no one or nothing jumps out at me. I have to do this. I need to. If I don't, then everything goes wrong for the rest of humanity. I can still hear the undead in the stairwell down to Sub-Level Six.
As I walk, my boots make a crunch sound as glass litters the floor. Shrieks everywhere make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I need to get to the control room soon. I take in the last looks of my life. I never thought it'd end like this, me trying to save what people are left, if there are much left.
I stop at the red and white trademark "A", and look at it. It'll be the last time I'll ever see it.
It's horrible, knowing that you have the option to back out and be happy with the one you love most versus trying to save what little remains of humanity.
After what felt like an eternity walking, I reach the control room. Then, a familiar voice cuts through the P.A.
"John? Can you hear me, baby?" It's Dawn!
"Dawn, where are you?" I say. " I hope you're safe."
She sobs. "I am. I'm aboard a ship out in the middle of the Pacific."
"Good," I nod my head. "I love you."
"I love you too," Dawn says before she cuts out. Those were the last words I'd hear from my beloved.
I open the doors to the control center. As I lock them, I eye a camera. I bet Dawn's probably watching.
"Computer," I say. "Execute Order 13, all ATLAS bases on land. One minute."
Immediately, a countdown starts. I stare at the ground, and start to cry. There's no way I can get out of here in time. I can't cancel it, or delay it. Just watch as the last minute of my life ticks away.
And it happens. The generators emit their power, then explode. Fire consumes me, burning my flesh until there's nothing left. Then, I'm torn to pieces.
