Present Day - Hailey’s POV
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ringing of the phone startled me from the coma like state I had fallen into. The nightmares were getting worse and seeming more regular. Those blue eyes. What did they mean? Today was not going as I planned. Firstly I had woken up to an empty house to then find that my parents had left a note on the fridge to tell me that they had gone out for the day. Again. Alone. I slouched on the sofa waiting for the TV to turn on only to find that the remote was out of my reach. With a grunt I stood up and fumbled towards the side table. As my arm aimlessly searched for the remote, it nocked something over. Sighing I picked up the object only to find that it was a picture frame. Of who I was not sure of but I seemed to feel sorrow for the old woman. She sat, perched on a old park bench with a weary grin almost as if she had lived many lifetimes and was now ready for the ground to embrace her. But the ringing brought me back to my senses and I put the picture back into its place, picking the phone up on the way.
‘Yellow?’ I answered the phone checking who the number was from. ‘Orange!’ It was George, my best friend since year 7. He’s gay but that’s why I love him because he’s useful for so many things. Every girl should have a gay best friend. They can help with everything like shopping, guy problems (not that I have any), they can make you laugh even when your on your period! Pure genius’s they are !!
‘Blue’ I couldn’t help but play along but he seemed to have more than colours to talk about.
‘So Hailey… why haven’t you been answering your mobile? I’ve been trying to ring you for half an hour ! That’s a whole 30 minutes of my life I will never get back! You know sometimes I don’t know why I bother with you!! …’ He faked the disappointment in his voice but still I didn’t know why he was my friend.
George was everything I was not! He has the looks of a Hollister model without looking preppy, whereas I had that kind of mouldy brown hair that wasn’t brown or blond but a mix. He was fit and could run for hours without breaking sweat, but I … well… lets just say when I walk up the stairs a swear-word always manages to escape my lips. Whenever he meets a new person he manages to make a decent conversation, I on the other hand manage to make myself look like a crazy and deranged little girl. His deep voice interrupted my depressing thoughts. ‘So your actually alright with that?’ He sounded shocked. Wait. Hang on. What exactly am I getting myself into?
‘Ummmm… what were you talking about George? Sorry my brain is being stupid. I just need a tub of Ben and Jerries cookie dough ice cream and then I’ll be all fine and dandy’ I mumbled on but I could almost hear George roll his eyes at me. Typical. ‘Were going shopping Halls!’ he exclaimed excitedly. Isn’t he just the perfect stereotypical gay!!! But then it dawned on me what he just said. ‘sh..shh…o….oop…ppiiinng’ I whimpered ‘George please no! You know how much I hate shopping! It makes me feel so un coordinated and dizzy. I mean how can someone choose out of all those bright colours and styles! Go and ask your mum to take you, I’m not going!’ I adamantly resisted his pleads but like I said he’s almost perfection so what he wants he gets. Oh lucky me…
