The Creator: Chapter Three

Surprising Developments

The crowd gasp. This was my village, I knew everyone and everyone knew me. I was probably the last person they would ever had guessed to be the champion. Of all my family they would have guessed anyone but me.

As everyone started, jaws ajar, my vision began to change. From my quaint little village hall images were swirled then spread out again until I was looking at somewhere I didn't know. These people's jaws were agape as well. Then it happened again, and again. Each time I viewed a different place.

Is this an affect of the hologram? I wondered. Each time the image switch I was greeted with new gasps and astonished faces as the saw me.

Straight, plain brown hair without the slightest volume, short hight of five foot one and really long legs, giving me the impression of a spider. Pale complexion, and filthy smock. Everything about me was plain, boring, except my eyes; One forest green like my families, and the other light violet, the color of lilac. Although, my village cursed me because of it, called me a witch.

I am no witch as far as I'm concerned! All it is, is a genetic mutation in my DNA that changed the color of my left eye. Alas, myth read in our stars told different, that those with different eyes had great power.

The images continued to flash by, going faster and faster, giving me less a less time to view what was going on.

"This is the champion. She may not look very big, but physical size doesn't matter. It's the size of her heart, courage, and greatness that does."

On that last word the pictures stopped, allowing me to focus on my village, the people I grew up with, my family, my few friends. They were all still staring, mouths gaping.

I stared back unsure of what to do or say. A few seconds passed, then Myranda nudged my shoulder and jerked her head. Indicating that I should say something.

My lips formed an 'O' and I bit my lip, "um, hello, everyone. Well, I guess the creator has chosen me as the champion. I don't know why, but I'll do what I can.

"Granted I don't look like much. You may be wondering what in the world I can do, although believe me, I don't know yet. Although whatever it is will surely show up during the challenges and obstacles that will cross my path.

"Also, I will make mistakes, I'm only me, not a miracle worker. So, don't just focus on my mistakes. Think of the good that will have come." Thusly, I concluded my speech.

I glanced over at Myranda as an applause rang out and once again the images began to float in my vision. My speech must have been broadcasted to all of Mohana, I thought as I took in Myranda'a smile.

The noise continued as she leaned over to whisper in my ear. She told me I did well and that I could have a seat. With a thankful smile and huge weight of being on stage of my chest, I fled.

Back with my family, I sat with my hands clutching at the seat of the chair. My family placed comforting hands on my shoulders and with comforting words told me I was great I stage. However, the grief of this gift being bestowed upon us hung heavy upon our hearts.

Already being the champion proved to be a daunting task. The separation of my beloved family was too much, but viewing all those expecting faces of Mohana? It proved to be an exceedingly impossible task. All of them looking up at me, hope of protection in their eyes, expectations of previous champions in their minds. How am I going to live up to that?

I sighed, I had no idea. All I can do it go with the flow and take what is dished out to me to the best of my ability.

Myranda continued to speak. I tried to focus, tried to pay attention, but my mind and body wasn't listening to its commands.

Unaware of how much time had passed, I was prodded by the elbow of Darius. With a whisper in my ear, he said that everyone was leaving and that Myranda had gestured for me to wait to talk.

I nodded. Keeping my seat, my village slowly got to their feet and filed out of the hall. The last to leave were my family, looking back at me with sorrow in their eyes.

Shrugging, I offered them a small smile. In a half hearted attempt to return it, they left the room, leaving me and Myranda.

"I don't think I need to remind you of how much danger you will be in," Myranda began. "Although I sensed that the people are worried because you don't look like much."

Once again I shrugged, palms open in a gesture of defeat. I couldn't change my appearance no more then I could change the fact of who the champion was. It was all up to the Creator and his grand scheme.

"Although Valerie, I do want to cation you. The fact that they are disappointed will drive the non believers into overdrive. I'm afraid that it may lead to more assassination attempts upon you. Even the believers may lash out in anger against the Creator because of his choice."

My heart stopped. I knew the road was going to be difficult, but this? This new development will make it darn near impossible! Before I could think, I was asking how I would ever be able to survive.

A smile touched her lips as I said this,"ah, Valerie, my dear, the creator hasn't left you to completely to yourself. Come here. I'm going to tell you something and you'll have to keep it as secret as you can.

"If anyone were to know, I'm afraid the information will spread like wild fire and no one would trust you. They would shun you."

If possible, my eyes grew ever wider as I left my seat to come meet Myranda.

As I got closer, my adrenalin coursed through my veins and I could hear my heart beat pulsing in my ears, growing ever quicker. I couldn't replace the sense of dread that consumed me as I stopped at the top of the stairs of the stage.

Myranda gestured for me to come closer and so I did. In a few steps I was standing right beside her and so she whispered in my ear

"Valerie, the creator hasn't left you to do this on your own. He has given you gifts, gifts that will help you on your way. Tell no one, for they will align it with being a witch. An excuse to burn you at the stake for its more proof then just the color of your eyes.

"Again, I cation you. The people of Mohana are scared because you don't look like much. However, do not loose hope. Whatever happens do not loose it. For there is a greatness that lies within you. One that you have yet to discover."
