"Blair?"
My body was softly swayed back and forth.
"Blair, could you go down to the market and get these?"
My mother handed me a slip of beaten paper with faint scribbles. I nodded as she walked out of my room. I slowly lifted myself from the bed only to feel sharp pains from my core. A small yelp escaped my lips. I rolled from the mattress. My feet patted around the corner of my room to a large sheet standing in front of me. Once I had uncovered my mirror, I gradually lifted my top off. No, not possible. An enormous slice was splitting my stomach in half. The gash, the blood, the wolfs... They were just a dream, wasn't it? Maybe I just slipped of something. In my sleep... Being the klutz I am, that was an easy lie to trust.
"Blair, those eggs aren't going to buy themselves!"
I rolled my eyes at my mother's indecent joke.
"Coming, mum."
I threw the sheet back over the long mirror. I quickly covered the cut with a soft cloth, wrapping it around my body then finishing off with a knot. I threw on a shirt and a pair of jeans. With the note in my pocket, I pranced down the staircase and into the kitchen. I grabbed a roll of bread and a bottle of milk.
"You're going to need this."
I acquired the basket from her hands, then laced it through my arm. I collected my jacket, scarf and boots.
"Be back before seven."
"Alright..." I mumbled as I rushed out the door.
Filling my lungs with the freezing air was the greatest sensation. Being in Alaska, it was practically always frigid here. Only on certain occasions I enjoyed it, on days like today. I stepped down the front porch, wrapping myself in a coat. Almost every day my mother had me go down to our local supermarket, which was a gathering of foreign merchants, from the whole world. That's what I wanted to do, travel. But coming from a family with practically nothing, it was hard to keep believing. I sighed clutching my side.
I followed the dirt path boarding along the woods. This way was longer but at least I sometimes would get a glance at the wolfs. They scarred me, but something kept pulling me back. I walked close to the towering trees always glancing into the darkness. It was probably to early for them to be awake.

Once I had arrived to the market I review the list. Butter, apples, eggs, pretty much the usual things. It was pretty quiet this morning, only a handful of merchants were here. I silently searched around for what I needed. Once I had everything my mother requested, I took one last glimpse around. I squeezed my eyes shut, as something had glittered in them. I paced over to the timeworn counter where the light had shown. A small pendant rested in a bin jumbled with others. I lifted it up and studied it.
It was a small silver wolf inside a circle. It had feathers surrounding the circle while the wolf had his head raised. He was howling at the moon. I flipped over the cool metal. On the back was inscribed ‘What you truly are, is inside’
“How much?”
A rather elderly woman glanced back up at me. “Why don’t you keep it?” She groggily answered.
“Thank you, but I couldn’t.” I pulled out a few coins and handed them to her. And with that I walked away. I untied the ribbon then laced it again around my neck. I watched as the bright sun started to shine above the trees.
Abruptly, I felt hollow, I became very famished. I felt my body began to shake in starvation. I began to shudder so hard I fell to the ground letting my basket roll away. I suffered my shoulders sprout into something huge. My ears pricked as a deer leaped into the little path. My eyes had the feeling of being bloodshot and drowsy. The second the animal had jumped into my way I shot up. No way this was impossible. I store at the animal, it was so focused, I could see each and every hair on the deer’s body. I felt the tension between us, heard it’s uneven short breaths. I felt an unbearable pain come from inside and all of a sudden, I wasn’t in my own skin anymore.
