"But mom-"
"No. I said no!" She crosses her arms. "You're too young. Let Jason and Will have time with dad."
"It's not fair! I'm almost ten! You let Will go when he was nine...you're ruining my life!" I mumble the last part under my breath.
"I heard that. Go to your room young lady!"
I stomp upstairs and slam my door shut then proceed to scream into my pillow. Then I get an idea.
The boys should be leaving for the camp site in just about thirty minutes. I can catch them if I leave now.
Quickly sliding open my window I quietly slip outside, the cool air covering my small frame. Pulling my jacket tighter I skillfully scale down the side of my house. landing with a soft thud, I break off in a run towards the woods surrounding my house.
I make my way deeper into the woods, losing most of the light of the moon. Slowing down I feel someone, or something, watching me.
"Dad?" I slowly spin around to make sure I wasn't being followed. Just as I calm down, someone grabs my waist from behind.
"Boo!"
I scream and kick and squirm as the person behind me dies of laughter. "Sammie! You can't do that to me!"
"Sorry...I couldn't help it!" She says between giggles.
"Whatever. I have to keep moving if I want to catch up with the camping group."
"I want to come too!"
"Only if you promise to keep quiet. The have intensified senses, remember?"
"Blah blah, quiet quiet. Sure. Let's go!"
Before we can move I hear a crack from behind. "What was that?" I ask Sammie but she's paralyzed with fear.
"Be-be-behind-" she's cut off by a sickening voice I instantly hate.
"Aren't you two a little young to be in the woods by yourselves?" I spin around to come face to face with a monster. "Maybe I better help you out of these dark, scary woods." A sickening smile slips onto his face.
Sammie finally snaps out of it. "No. We were just heading home, weren't we Kara?"
"Yeah. That's right."
"I don't think so." He makes a grab for Sammie but she bites his hand. "You little-"
She grabs my hand and we start sprinting through the woods. Being the little sister I am after following my brothers through this forest, I know it like the back of my hand. Sadly, Sammie didn't.
Sammie trips and the man pulls her up by the hair. She lets out a whimper.
Not being able to stand watching my friend in pain, I kick the kidnapper in his 'prized jewels' and he quite literally howled in pain. Unluckily he quickly recovers and grabs my ankle as Sammie and I try to run away. I fall and hit my head on a rock. Blood streams down my face blocking my vision. All I see before I black out is Sammie screaming.

*kara's mom's pov*
Sighing I set the last dish in the sink before standing up. I wipe off my hands before heading upstairs to check on Kara. I don't make it very far.
As I pass the door I hear someone crying.
I slowly open the door to find Kara's best friend Sammie a wreck on my doorstep.
"Sammie, what's wrong?" She looks up at me with red rimmed eyes. "In the woods...there was a man...he took her!" She barely gets the words out between her sobs.
"Took who Sammie?"
"I tried to stop him....she saved me but he got her."
"Sammie. I need you to answer me. Who'd he take?"
"Kara. He took Kara." She whispers but I catch every sound.
My heart drops.
