PROLOGUE: THE DISTANCE

It was five minutes past seven in the Saturday morning and there was nothing but silence in a two-storey town house in Quezon City. Everyone who lives in there seems to have their own businesses to attend to either the Friday evening before which made them forget their way home or early this morning that they cannot wait for the sun to rise before they get going.

All except for someone who lightly snores under the covers in his bedroom and childishly snuggling against a fluffy pillow with Superman case.

However, the silence has been disturbed as a familiar ringtone went in the air.

"You're my sunshine after the rain, you're the cure against my fear and my pain

And I'm losing my mind when you're not around, it's all, it's all, it's all because of you..."

98 Degrees' Because of You played in the air inside Alden Richards' bedroom. Abruptly, the man under the sheets excitedly got up as if he was up hours before. This was so not true though as he just snoozed his alarm on the bedside table for 30 minutes a while ago. His sought-after sleep was thrown in the air upon hearing that ringtone which seemed to bring an unexplainable energy to his whole body.

Alden Richards is a young actor who just started in the business a year back. He went through a lot of auditions and small gigs when he started out and due to his work attitude and undeniable charisma, he was now a regular part of a teen show and has proven his potential in acting. Showbiz veterans and critics alike were impressed with him. And lately, he has been so busy with projects that he usually got back home late. Yesterday is not an exception as he went home at 4:00am that morning coming from a whole day of taping in Cebu.

And it was just past 7:00am. But nonetheless, all that lack of sleep goes to air with that ringtone which he specifically assigned to one of his phone contacts.

His smile was ear to ear as he snatched his iPhone from the side table. Knowing exactly who is calling him.

"Good morning beautiful!" The actor cheerily said as he answered the call.

The person on the other end can't help but roll her eyes for what she does not know if a constant compliment or a constant joke. Alden usually calls her that and who was she to complain? A girl can dream right?

And Maine hearing that husky bedroom voice meant only one thing: she, again, untimely woke up the actor. Though she felt guilty for doing so, she can't help but smile because the actor still answered the phone and was trying his best to sound truly awake. And right now, she expected the evident lie that she will hear next.

"Beautiful ka jan! Anyway, good morning! Kagigising mo lang ba? Sorry if nagising na naman kita." The girl said apologetically.

"Hin- achoo!" Alden was not able to finish his words and he was not fast enough to control his sneeze. He quickly brought the other side of his hand to his nose as he let out a chuckle. That was embarrassing for someone to hear in less than 1 minute of conversation over the phone.

"Magsisinungaling pa kasi eh!" Maine laughed with Alden at what just happened. She has always this belief that when the actor lies to her, he sneezes. And funny enough, that has yet to fail every single time.

Alden can't help but have a full laugh from a chuckle. He can't really hide things from her friend Maine Mendoza. And he was now fully awake as if he just had one of the best sleeps he ever had.

"O sya. What are you waiting for Den? Buksan mo na yung bintana mo, bilis!" Maine cheerfully demanded. He can hear the excitement from Maine's voice and he can't help but ask.
