Sorry it's short!
"An A? How the heck did you get an A? You didn't even study! I studied all night and I got a B," Alice complains.
I shrug, being just as shocked. Everyone was stressing over the test. I was focusing on the actual training, like sparring and learning how to survive up there. But somehow, I got an A.
"Results are coming out today. You think you'll be in the mission?" Alice asks excitedly.
"Of course, both of us will," I reply with a confident smile, even though I know that I'm doomed. It's not that I didn't try hard, I'm just naturally a slacker. I'll have to go back. I know I will.
Well, the exact opposite happened. I'm not complaining or anything, but how?
As we stand in line, the top 10 recruits are picked. Sadly, this includes Xavier.
He stops me in the hallway that evening. "What'd you do?" He snaps.
"You might want to be more specific," I reply.
"I'm not stupid. You cheated, there's no other way you could've gotten into the top 10."
I wrinkle my nose. "Well I didn't cheat. What do you care anyway? I just got lucky."
"I don't want someone like you putting others in danger."
"I'm not like that!"
I push past him angrily. He thinks he's better than me. Funny, how that automatically makes me want to get every chance to prove him very wrong. Challenge accepted.
