I walked the streets of New York back home from school. No,I don't live in the fancy houses down the street from me but where I live has a roof.I checked my phone when an alarm went off stating "interview at 5 pm!" And rushed home realizing it was already 4:30.

When I got home my mom was screaming at my 4 year old sister Lianna for leaving her blanket on the floor with a bottle of beer in her hand. I quickly picked her up as she laid her head on my shoulder crying. It took everything in me not to punch my mom in her face. " Put her down! She is just a little punk, she need to learn how to take shit like this!" My mom screamed taking a swig from her beer bottle. " she is 4 mom.... She won't understand." She quickly looked at me and walked closer. I stopped in my tracks, startled."Did I ask you what you thought Jasmine" she said walking closer to me anger building in her eyes. I took a step back, " No..." I replied hoping to defuse the situation. She stared at me a few seconds more and I couldn't tell where this was going. She broke eye contact and walked away. " That's what I thought" she said. Thank God, I couldn't go to meet this man with a black eye.

I ran upstairs with my sister and placed her in my room. Then I got my 1 year old brother Jonathan out of my moms room who had been sleep through all of that. I guess he got use to this just as we all did. I laid him in my bed and got his extra milk bottle I kept in my room. I handed it to my sister, " If he wakes up, give him the bottle and it should put him back to sleep, if not call me and I will be right home, make sure he doesn't upset mom. I will be home around 6 or 7, be careful, I'll put on some tv for you, okay I love you." I kissed Lianna's head. She nodded understanding exactly what I meant by "be careful." I put on some Elmo for her and looked at the time. " Damn it, it's 5:15" I said under my breath. I got my purse together and kissed Jonathan's forehead. I went down the staircase to see what my mom was doing. She was passed out on the couch with Murray playing on the tv at the loudest point. The usually, I snuck downstairs being careful not to wake her and successfully went out the door.

I ran down the street to my interview and made it at 5:30. I am a half hour late but at least I made it. I hesitantly knocked on the door only to see a beautiful sun-kissed man maybe between the ages of 30-35 with a scruffy blonde half-grown beard, blueish-green eyes and rosy red lips holding a beautiful sleeping baby girl that looked just like him in one arm. Cute, "May I help you?" He asked breaking my train of thought. I hadn't realized I had been staring. " Oh yes... Sorry...um, I am here for the baby sitting interview, we spoke over the phone. You told me to stop by at 5, sorry I am late. I kind of had to handle a.... Situation." He scanned me, and hesitantly opened the door widely. "You may come in." He said with a warm smile. I hadn't realized his British accent. It added to his whole look. " Thank you" I replied with the same kindness stepping inside his house. The house was beautiful. It was big, white, old and had a southern feel to it, which was odd considering we were in New York. I always saw the big houses on my way home from school but have never been inside one. Only a couple of houses down were the old rusted houses that shouldn't even be aloud to be lived in but that's where I live. " It's amazing in here" I said looking around. "Thank you" he responded leading me into his living room. "Would you like some tea?" He asked with another warm smile, he had a dimple. My lord I love dimples... Snap out of it Jasmine, you might be working for this man. "Hello? Dear, are you alright?" I once again had been starring. "Oh my god, I am so sorry, I am sometimes in my head to much, yes I would love some tea." He chuckled at me, " Alight then, I hope you don't do that often." He said walking away into the kitchen which was visible from the living room. I slapped my forehead. I am such an idiot...

He came back with the tea one by one since he had the baby in his other hand and placed them on the coffee table across from the couch I was sitting on. He sat next to me, not to close but not to far, which seemed appropriate. I had then realized the baby was up. I smiled looking down at her ,"She is beautiful
you know." I stated. "Thank you, her name is Aurora." He said sitting her up. I smiled again " Hi Aurora" I took he tiny hand and rubbed it with my thumb. She smiled in return making me giggle as well as her father. " I am Nick by the way," he said sticking his hand out for a hand shake. " I took it "Oh duh, my name Jasmine. That should have been the first thing out of my mouth." I said kind of embarrassed. "That is quite alright" he said while still holding my hand. There was a linger there but I took my hand away to take away the awkwardness. Realizing this, he composed himself, adjusting the baby and clearing his throat. "So tell me about yourself" he asked moving on. Keep focused Jasmine, think about your goal...
