My Selection

Chapter 1- Introduction

"Landen" I hear my mother call.
I walk to the study where my mother Queen America and King Maxon are waiting with paperwork.

"Not another deal with Italy." I moan. I love the Italians as much as they love me and my mother but they can become overwhelming.

"No, it not another deal with them. But more of a deal for the country of Illéa" my father replied.

"Oh what for?"

"Landen, I'm going to be honest with you. Ever since the castes been dissolved Illéa has become more and more restless. Another reason is that you become the age were you should be looking for someone to settle down with as well. With those reasons your mother and I have decided that you will host your own Selection."

"When?"

"Well, we have a speech prepared for you to give on The Report this week. All eligible girls between 15 and 18 will submit a form and you will randomly choose 1 girl from each Province "

"So, 35 girls are going to be throwing themselves at me?" I nervously ask.

"Yes that is correct. Well, you're gonna need some time to recite your speech properly. I'd advise you to do it sooner rather than later since The Report will be tomorrow.

"Yes, father I will see right to that." I walk out of the study and down the hall to The Prince's suite.

I open the door and send my butler to get some tea while I look over the speech.

I couldn't recite this garbage. I couldn't go through with this whole selection. I know it worked for my parents but I know it won't work for me at all.

Sighing I learned the speech and then went to bed.

"And so I hope every single lady in Illéa will put her name in so you have the chance to become my bride."

I go to sit down next to my mother while Father talks about the new housing units being available in some of the outer provinces.

After The Report is over I take my dinner into my room.

6 months till I have to propose.

Two weeks until 35 girls come to the palace.

One week until I choose the girls.

One day to lose my freedom.
