My Selection

Chapter 3- Preparation

I get up from the garden bench and walked inside to help prepare everything for our guests.

I have decided on the feast, which maids got put where and how the rooms looked like.

When I got back to my room, my butler Morris had a letter for me. I sent him off to go get some tea while I could read my letter in peace.

Dear Landen,

Please meet me in gardens tonight around 3 o'clock in the morning. We have a lot to discuss about The Selection and what our future holds.

I mentally curse at myself. I knew this was going to happen at some point. I'm glad it's gonna be sooner rather than later.

I look at the time it's only 6 in the evening so I have some time to wait.

I wait till it was 5 till 3. I walk quietly out of my room down the hall and down the stairs. I round the corner and to my luck no one was arming the door to the garden.

I walk outside and to our usual spot where we meet. I see them in the shadows.

"We can't be doing this, you know?" I asked.

"I know but we can't be seeing each other during the selection. It would be disastrous for both you and I. You could be overthrown and I could be banished as well for our actions."

" I know. Maybe if The Selection doesn't work out maybe we could still be together."

" You don't understand Landen. They're expecting you to find a bride. We probably be killed if they ever find out about us."

" But, I can't go without you August. You mean the world to me."

" I know but you going to be King and me a Guard it never would have worked out. I love you but we can't be together anymore.."

He walks away leaving me there almost in tears. Why couldn't my parents are that I was happy? Sure, nobody in power had a partner the same sex as them but that shouldn't be important.

I'm still in love with him and I don't think I can't do this without him by my side.

6 months till I have to propose.

3 days till the girls get here.

1 hour for my heart to break.
