2009

I remember this little girl, she used to climb this tree at a park near my house.

I didn't know her name, but she was at least a year or two younger than me. She had this pretty brown hair. She always wore a bow of some kind. She often wore dresses, frilly ones, but not too frilly. After school, she would always go to the park and read in a tree. Until the others threw rocks at her.

She would climb higher to stay out of their reach. One day she slipped and fell. She broke her arm, or something. It was bent the way it shouldn't. The kids continued to throw rocks and pull her hair. We lived in a thug community.

I watched her pass by my house after school. She would sometimes run home, crying. She was real cautious where ever she went. She never did anything wrong.

One day I saw her walking home around dark. She stopped on the curb in front of my house and cried. I came out with what cookies were left in our cabneint. I sat on the curb with her and handed her one. Her face was red and tearfull. Her eyes were shining in the dim light.

"Thank you," she said. She stopped crying as much.

"What's wrong," I asked.

"They said they would rob my house. They said they would find me and kill me," she bursts into tears.

I rub her back for comfort. I have an older brother, but I don't know about children. I just know they can be brats.

"What's your name," she asked.

"Lucas'" I said.

"Well Lucas, I thank you for the sweets," She says in some accent and stands up. "Who is your favorite princess?"

"I don't know." I don't watch Disney very much. "Cinderella"

"Well, mine is Bell, from The Beauty and the Beast"

She was happy now. She smiled amd said she had to leav. She had parcialy crooked teeth, but not crooked enough to get braces. She hugged me and ran home.

She went missing on March 8, 2009.

Our house caught fire by the boys next door. We moved to an apartment complex on the other side of the state.

2015

I was playing video games on a Tuesday night when my mom called me for dinner. I got up, brushed chip crumbs off of my band shirt and walked downstairs.

As I walk through the kitchen and see my dad watching the news. The headline read Caroline Richards Found Dead .

It showed a picture of that one girl before she went missing. They found her.

But she wasn't alive.

She was found dead.

On railroad tracks.

Why?
