Glenda stood in stunned silence. Her brain wanted to let out a scream, but she couldn't seem to conjure one.James looked behind him, trying to figure out what was scaring her. Instead of something horrifying, like he expected, he only saw Crystal. She gave him an "uh oh" look, and James sprung into action. He grabbed Glenda by the arm, yanked her inside and shut the door behind him.
Glenda backed up slowly, not moving her eyes from Crystal. Her back eventually hit the wall, and she tensed up, not having anywhere else to go.
"James," she whispered. "Look behind you."
"I know, I know," he said, placing his hand on his forehead in frustration. He couldn't think of what to do and felt stuck.
"Is that..." she trailed off, not really wanting the answer.
"Yes."
Glenda tried to back up more. When she couldn't, she closed her eyes and turned her head, like she thought it would all just disappear.
Crystal wondered why Glenda didn't seem that afraid of her when they first met. She obviously wasn't backed up against a wall then. Crystal assumed that Glenda felt secure around the police and settled it at that, but it was hard to ignore that silver of curiousness in the back of her mind, urging her to find the answer.
Glenda suddenly jumped for the door, interrupting Crystal's thoughts. James held the door shut with her hand, but Glenda wouldn't give up. She wiggled the door knob, trying to escape. James was a lot stronger than her, so it wasn't hard for him to keep the door closed.
"We have to get out of here!" she urgently cried.
"No. Just listen." James responded.
Glenda didn't really want to listen. She tugged at the door with all of her strength, but it wouldn't budge. She glanced back at Crystal, the fear surfacing in her eyes.
Crystal had completely forgotten how fun it was to be feared. James wasn't afraid of her, so she had forgotten what it was like to feel like the most powerful person in the room. What it was like to be in control. She missed it. When Glenda glanced at her again, she saw her opportunity and glared back at her, a slight smirk curling around her lips.
Glenda gasped and threw herself back against the wall.
James sent Crystal a look that said "Seriously?!", but her smirk just grew as he sent her another warning look. He ignored her.
Glenda's eyes darted around the room for a phone. Once she saw one lying on the table , she made a dash for it. James saw what she was doing and reached it before her. He pushed it away from her grasp.
"Give me the phone!" she exclaimed.
"No." Crystal noticed that voice didn't seem as demanding as usual.
Glenda backed towards the door once more, after she had began to put together what was going on.
"Are you a part of this?" Glenda asked James, her voice barely audible.
James didn't respond. After a few seconds of silence he replied, "Yes, but-"
"No," she interrupted. "I trusted you."
