"Order up!"
The ding of the bell urged me to rush to the kitchen window. I took the plate that was overflowing with French fries and a juicy cheeseburger and made my way over to table 7.
"Here you go." I smiled at the old man in the diner booth who had become a regular in my section.
"Thank you." The man returned my smile as I went back to the kitchen.
"Any fun plans for the weekend?" My best friend Sean asked me. "Besides sitting in your house and reading a book Car." He quickly added as I was about to answer.
"None in particular." I shrugged.
"We should go clubbing! You're 21 years old and you have yet to go to a club. You're legal, it's okay to go out and have a good time now." I groaned knowing that I should have just lied and said I already had plans, not that he would have believed me.
"I don't like the club scene." I reminded him leaning on the counter.
"You can't dislike something when you've never even experienced it." Sean sounded exasperated.
"My dad would never go for it anyway." I came up with another excuse although this one was legitimate.
"So? Like I previously stated," Sean emphasized his words," You're 21 it's time to get drunk, have random hookups, and overall a really good time. I've just convinced myself. You're coming and I'll invite Dana and Wes."
I know my protests would fall upon deaf ears so I gave in and nodded.
Sean began to cheer before our boss came in to scold him. Since I wasn't fond of confrontation I slowly made my way out of the kitchen and sighed in relief when it went unnoticed.
I went back to check on my tables to which didn't need any help.
I talked to the hostess, Ali, for a short amount of time before realizing my shift was ending. I went to the back of the diner and gathered my belongings.
Sean walked in a few minutes after me and shot me an award winning smile.
"I'm guessing you didn't get into too much trouble then?" I laughed taking in his peppy mood.
"Me? You know I can talk my way out of any situation." He winked as he went through his locker.
"Alright well I'll see you." I waved making my way towards the door.
"Yeah! You'll see me tonight at the club!" I stopped in my tracks and turned to face him.
"Tonight?" I rubbed my arm nervously.
"Yeah tonight. I'll pick you up on the way. Be ready at 12." He told me.
"We aren't leaving until 12? Shouldn't we be getting home at that time?" I gaped.
I was met with a chuckle and a pat on my back. "So innocent."
I watched as Sean walked past me and left through the back door.
I stood for awhile staring at the back door waiting for something, for what I didn't exactly know but that didn't stop me from doing it anyway.
When I finally realized I was being stupid I walked out the back down and to my car.
The drive home was short and simple, as my dad didn't want me traveling too much. He had a problem with cars, he referred to them as death machines on wheels. That was only when I wanted to drive, when he was driving he didn't seem to care. I didn't know what I was going to tell him to be allowed out tonight, especially if I wasn't leaving until midnight.
