"Dani, sweetheart." I heard a soft voice whisper, I tooled over onto my back and slowly opened one eye. My mother was leaning over me with a tray in her hand. I propped myself up on my pillows and my mother lay the tray across my lap. "Sausage, bacon, eggs and hash browns, your favourite!" My mother chirped as she kissed my left temple. She waddled over to my closet and opened the creaky doors. "Oh I must remember to oil these darn things." I heard her mutter as I watched her gaze upon my closet doors. She coughed, then looked through my clothes. "What we doing today, mom?" I asked through mouthfuls of breakfast. "School supply shopping, then we're going to the uniform store to get you your school uniform." My mother informed me. I groaned, public high school. One of my many worst nightmares. I sighed as my mother pulled a grey hoodie, a batman t-shirt, jeans and flip flops out of my closet. "Eat up then get dressed." She instructed. I nodded as I happily ate my bacon. My mother left my room and closed my door, leaving me alone in my silent bedroom. Posters, paintings and quotes were plastered over my walls. My desk, which was covered in paper, pencils, erasers and notebooks. My room isn't messy, it's more like... Organised chaos.
I gulped down my orange juice and swung my legs out of bed. I leaned over and turned on the radio. I started removing my pyjamas and putting on the clothes my mother gave me. My mother chooses my outfits a lot, shes really good at it, she knows my style like the back of her hand. I whistled the song that was blasting out my speakers as I tied my hair into a high sock bun and applied some mascara and lip balm. I turned off my radio, put my glasses on and wandered downstairs. My mother smiled at me as she slipped on her coat. We both went out the door and got into the car. I sighed once again and my mother gave me a sympathetic smile. "I know it's scary, especially for you, sweetheart. But the job I was offered was incredible, I couldn't refuse. I'll get payed lots more and it's generally a better working environment." My mother said, breaking the awkward silence that had been building up in the vehicle. "Mmh hmm" I murmured, gazing out the window at the passing buildings. We first pulled up outside the school store. I got out the car and opened the door for my mom as we walked into the store. My mother got me some white polo shirts, white blouses, black cardigans, skinny black school trousers, some black shorts, black tights, three black pleated skirts, a dark red hoodie and a black hoodie, socks and a school tie. In total it all came to $25.45
We climbed back into the car and mom placed the bags in the boot. We drive out the parking lot and back onto the road. "School supplies next." My mother chirped. We eventually pulled up in the Target parking lot. We wandered into the store and mom guided me to the school supplies section. She picked out most but I picked a few. We settled with some wooden & mechanical pencils, red blue and black pens, coloured highlighters, four notebooks, four binders, a black and white check pencil case, a calculator, some erasers, felt tip pens, colouring pencils, scissors, post-it notes, a glue stick and a sharpener. We went to pay and in total everything cost $21.39
We got back in the car and drive home. I grabbed the keys out my moms bag, unlocked the house door and dived onto the couch, my face sinking into a pillow. "That wasn't so bad, eh?" My mom exclaimed as she closed the door with her elbow and placed the bags on the table. She sighed and sat next to me. "It'll be okay, Dani. Trust me."
