November 20th 1997

"Wow, she's beautiful, Aleena," a man, who was in his early twenties, held his two year old  in his arms, rocking her back and forth. He had black curly/puffy hair and he was about 5'7. His eyes were bronze like coins.

The child was squealing and laughing in his arms. She looked no different. She had pigtails in her hair that were the same puffy texture, only this time, a shade of dark brown. Her eyes brown as well, and not the same bronze like her father. Something she probably got from her mother.

Aleena, the brunette with nice and neat brown curls meeting her back, nicely and slowly held the child to keep her from the reach of that man. "Her name is Alice, James," she said with a cold look.

James did notice this. His bronze eyes narrowed. Was she trying to keep his child away from him? James rolled his eyes. Ever since Alice turned one, Aleena has been very cold and distant. It was probably because Aleena found out that James was getting married in seven months, to his fiancé,Karen Andrews, without letting Aleena know.

Sure, they weren't together, in fact before this child was born, Aleena and James grown apart. Them, being a romantic relationship, could happen know longer. Reason being, they were seventeen and being so young, James wasn't so serious about the relationship. He messed around with other girls, and because of that Aleena left him.

Before going off to college, James met up with her and apologized, and asked to be friends again. The apology was sincere, and because Aleena was raised to forgive and forget, she forgave him.

Everything went just fine between them ever since Alice was born. James and Alice really had an exceptional bond, as well. Everyday, they'd watch TV, take long naps. Hell, they even went to the movies together. All that. Just until Aleena came to pick her up from work. Aleena loved the fact that James stepped up and became a wonderful father! But nowadays, the thought of Alice even being around her dad made Aleena uncomfortable.

"You know I think Alice is getting restless," Aleena said. Truth was that she didn't want to really expose her child to James, in fear that she might be just like him. And he was NO idiot. He knew damn well that Aleena didn't want him around.

Although, Alice was crying an awful lot. Who's to make assumptions that she was crying because she needed sleep? She had 3 hours of sleep. When James arrived, she was being fed by her mother. So she wasn't hungry. It could've been her diaper. But if that was her discharged diaper, then why would Aleena try to lie?

"Look, James, do you need a ride? 'Cause I could-"

"Don't 'look, James' me!," James held a hand in her face.

"Look there's no reason for you to raise your voice."

"Aleena, shut up!," James' eyes narrowed once again. "I've had just enough of your stupid excuses for me to stay away from my child! I think you should no me by now! I don't take shit from anyone, not even you!"

"OK!," Aleena put her child down in the crib. This got uglier than it needed to be and it was bad enough that James refused to leave, but now she had to have an argument with him.

"Do you think I want my child to be like you?," Aleena raged. "A selfish, dishonest, cold hearted, bastard?!" At this point Aleena knew her language was quite hoarse. But she wasn't going to allow her first child to become anything like her father.

"But do you think I'd want my child to be like  someone who calls everyone out, who has their head so far up their ass, that they can't even smell their own bullshit?!," James' voice rose."I know I'm far from perfect, but I know how to own up to my mistakes, you act like you do nothing wrong!"

"Maybe I should start owning up to my mistakes," Aleena started. "Let's start with the mistake where I got together with you!"

"Wow! It's about time, you finally realized where you messed up!," James said mockingly.

"But I'm not gonna make another mistake happen by allowing you to have the tiniest influence on my child!," Aleena seethed.

"Fair enough," James said calmly. He put on his jacket and gathered his belongings."Guess I'm not wanted here. See you around, Al."

James walked out of the house and drove off in his red car.

'I really hope Alice doesn't turn out to be like any of us.'
