"Why?" Jesse asked as he watched me from across the room.

"Why what?" I asked, even though I knew what he meant.

"Why'd you have to go and tell everyone our relationship was a lie?"

"Because it was," I answered as I stared him straight in the eye, unblinking.

"You didn't have to. You could've gotten away with it. We could've gotten away with it."

I laughed dryly. "That's easy for you to say. You weren't the one getting the short end of the stick, okay."

He looked as if he was ready to argue that point.

I held up a finger. "Didn't you hear what everyone was saying?"

He stared at me, not saying a word.

"Right. You were to busy having a grand time with Ms Perfect." I didn't even care that I sounded jealous. "According to the rumor mill, I was the pathetic ex that wasn't even good enough for you. Do you have any idea what that feels like?" I chuckled. "No, of course you don't, Mr Perfect. So yes, I would've rather told the truth rather than go through another day being ridiculed."

Jesse continued to stare at me for what like minutes, still remaining silent.

"Now, since were done here, I'll take my leave," I announced when he still didn't say anything.

Right before I opened the door to walk out, I felt him behind me, close.

"And what about me?" His voice was raspy as if he hasn't said a word in days.

I turned back around, surprised he was a mere four feet away from me.

"How about the fact that I've never felt this way ever? How about the fact that I lost all reasoning?" Jesse's tone was one of near desperation and tears.

"Jesse-" I knew where this was going and I knew very well that I couldn't handle it, at least not without my heart breaking even more.

He cuts me off by laughing. "I screwed up. Big time. This," he pointed at both us, "this was supposed to be for fun. It was supposed to be entertaining. An entertainment in this small, dead town. And it was entertaining, at least for the first half of it." He paused, as he collected himself.

I nodded along. This was supposed to be fun. No strings attached.

"For the first half, I enjoyed the longing glances you and Daemon threw each other," he continued. "It was fun to see the two most naive people in the world, who could've solved everything if they just told each other how they felt. I loved watching the anger that clouded Matthews eyes whenever I touched you. I loved watching you think twice about confessing your feelings. I loved annoying you because it took up the time I'd have spent missing home."

I could feel my tears forming from all the pent up feelings. I held it in. "Jesse-"

He laughed before his eyes turned serious. "But somewhere along the middle, the excitement died. It wasn't fun anymore. It started slowly. I started to feel bad about taking advantage of your situation for my sole purpose. I hated the very idea that we were in a fake relationship. I started worrying about you, thinking about you. Then I started feeling possessive of you. I hated Matthews staring at you, I hated his jealousy, because I knew if you were given the choice, you would pick him. I hated the very idea of you figuring out his feelings for you. And then, that kiss..." His eyes drifted to my lips momentarily.

Mine drifted to his too as I thought of the kiss that had changed everything.

"That kiss nearly killed me. That was the breaking point. That was where I confessed to you. Yet, you were too innocent to figure it out. I wanted you to be my girlfriend, for real. This relationship wasn't fun anymore. It was hell." He sighed.

Slowly, a single tear rolled down my face. I brushed it away fast.

"Its funny, really," he began after what felt like hours. "The many girls that wanted me and I had to fall for the one that didn't. Karma's a bitxh, ain't it? I guess that's what you get for being an asshole."

"Jesse, you're the kindest guy I know," I argued. "You just like to act like a tough guy who doesn't give a shit, but you're sweet." I wanted to tell him the truth. I needed to tell him the truth, actually. "And that's what I l-"

He cuts me off again. "Fine. You see through me. But at least answer one more question," he paused waiting for a dissent from me. "Before, it didn't look like you and Daemon were together..."

"And?"

"Do you still like him?" He asked.

I hesitated a second before I shook my head.

"Why?"

"That's two questions."

"Why?"

My face reddened instantly as I avoided his gaze.

"Santana," he was suddenly in front of me, staring me down, expecting an answer.

I looked up at his foreboding height, before I said three words, "Because of you."

He was silent for a second, shock written on his face before he smiled. "That's all I needed to hear," he said before he leaned in and captured my lips in a kiss.
