I Want to say...hello

You have to stop doing that" Brook said, staring at my phone.

I continued to scroll through his feed, pretending I didn't hear what she said.

Brook and I have been best friends for as long as I can remember. She knows everything about me. Sometimes she knows more about me than I know about myself.

She's the friend that's brutally honest, but for the good.

Everyone needs someone like her.

Every guy fawns over her. With her long blond hair, perfect face, and designer clothing.

But she's sworn herself off from guys to focus on her big dream to go to Broadway.

"Christie" Brook said she reached for phone.

I quickly swerved away and stared at her.

She sighed as she scooted closer to me, put her back against my bedroom door, and stared back.

"It's been a month" Brook said after the long silence, "He has a girlfriend now".

I continued to stare at her then looked down at my phone. Still wondering why I thought we had the slightest chance.

"Why do people keep leaving me" I whispered to myself as I felt my vision get blurry.

Brook sighed again and put her arm around me.

"I don't know" She said, "But you need to know that their leaving, should be better, it shouldn't be hurting"

Another long silence.

"I just wanted to check on him" I said.

Brook removed her arm from around me and got out her phone.

"Then I'll help you" she laughed.

I silently laughed as I turned my phone back on.

We sat in silence, as we scrolled through his news feed.

I heard Brooke laugh as she stared at a picture of a girl.

"What's so funny" I asked as I looked over her shoulder.

"That's your replacement" Brook said, as she showed me the picture.

I lightly hit her and started to laugh with her. We laughed for what felt like hours.

As we finally caught our breath, I found something on his feed I never knew about.

"Twenty One Pilots" I whispered to myself. There were pictures everywhere on his feed. Videos of a concert, I swear he posted about them every five minutes.

"I think it's a band" Brook said, not looking up from her phone.

If he loved them so much, why didn't he tell me?

He told me everything.

I sat there in silence. The small things seemed to hurt the most.

"Where's your headphones" I finally asked.

"What?" Brook asked, turning to me.

"We need to listen to this band" I said, pointing at my phone.

Brook sighed once again, and gave me a look like I was stupid.

"That's not a way to get over him" Brook said, "Every song will remind you of him"

"Not true" I argued. But like always, Brook was right.

She sighed once more and pulled out her headphones out of her back pocket.

"Here" she said, sounding annoyed.

"Why thank you" I smiled.

She shook her head and went back to her phone.

I looked them up on Spotify and looked through their three albums.

Until one popped out.

"Trees"

The lyrics.

Derek texted me these lyrics. Almost everyday. I thought it was from a book or just him being his flirty self.

But it wasn't.

It was so much more.

I slowly grazed my finger over the song until I finally gave up and clicked on the song.

I turned the volume all the way up and closed my eyes.

I smiled every time the lyrics seemed so familiar.

But then I stopped.

It was over.

This is what I had of him.

The only thing I had of him.

I opened my eyes and wiped the tears that started streaming down my face.

I closed my eyes again and hoped that those would be the last tears I ever wasted on Derek

Bradley.
