"Hot damn! It's really coming down out there!" I shout as I walk through the doors of Singer Hill Cafe.
I could pretty much feel the stares from all the people in the cafe boring holes inside the back of my skull. Although I've gotten used to it, I mentally give them the finger and keep walking to the cashier. Ah, time for my usual. Single black coffee.
I suppose I gave people a reason to stare, but that didn't mean it wasn't annoying. There was nothing wrong with how I looked, honestly. Today it was a somewhat loose fitting black tank top, camouflage pants, some kick-ass combat boots, and my long black hair in a messy ponytail. Oh, and a large silver hoop for my septum piercing.
I was suddenly at the front of the line face to face with Tammy. She was the owner of the cafe. As soon as she saw it was me, she broke out into a smile.
"What'll it be girl? The usual I'm assuming," she asks me in a sweet and welcoming voice. I've been coming here since I was 11 and I found out coffee existed. She's been so good to me ever since.
I give a little smile.
"Aw, you know me so well!" I say with a chuckle.
"That'll be right up," she replies as I step to move out of the order line.
I turn to my left and run smack dab into a large wall and give an "oomph".
"Oh shit, I'm sorry about that," I hear an apologetic voice tell me.
I look up and to find a giant before me. Not literally a giant, but a very tall boy. I didn't know who he was, so it was slightly awkward.
"Oh, it's all good. Don't worry about it..." I squint at the name tag I see on his "Drew?" I say although it sounds like more of a question than a statement. I look into his eyes and notice that one is brown and the other is a hazely-green.
His eyes quickly turn from intimidating, to confused as he furrows his brows. "How do you know my name?" He questions.
"I promise you I'm not some creeper, it's just that your name tag is right there," I with a grin as I tap on his tag that's attached to his shirt.
"And I promise you that I am not an idiot all the time," he says with a chuckle.
I hear one of the baristas, Nicki, call out my name and order. I look over and she smiles at me and I return it. "Well I suppose that's my cue," I say jerking my thumb in the direction of the counter.
"Oh! Yeah," He replies. "Well it was nice clumsily bumping into you... Grace?" He asks and I nod my head. He smiles. "Grace. I'll see you."
With that he walks off to order his drink, or whatever he chooses to purchase. I make my way to the pick-up counter and get my coffee, exit the cafe then jog to my car careful not to spill the hot drink.
