The Passage of Time

The day before today

Memories and regret

It is a film in my mind that constantly plays

I know I shall never forget

I see behind me the mountains that once barred my path

If I try to go backwards to climb them again

I endure my memory’s terrible wrath

Ghosts linger here

Awaiting the turn of my back

They bring to my eyes already-cried tears

And convince already-popped lightning to crack

The day after yesterday

Soon to be the past

Has not quite as much to say

As it does not nearly last

One day before the day after tomorrow

A star in the night black sky

Unsure of holding joy or sorrow

Tomorrow does not lie
