The door to the garden opened automatically.
Sparks flew through the air, igniting everything they touched. And yet there was one place that had remained in its perfect state.
Link set his former master down, murmured a few words, and watched as he, too, caught fire. Eventually, there was nothing left but the earring and the cloak, which remained stowed in Link's pocket. He still couldn't quite take out his current earring - he was less than a month from being able to do so - but once he could it would be replaced immediately. That he was sure of.
He wiped a final, stray tear from his cheek and turned to hug Agitha fiercely. "I know I kept saying you could leave, but thank you for staying."
She smiled and patted the top of his head - in a manner that reminded him so much of Ghirahim - with a cheerful, "No problem!"
He smiled back, and she was thrilled to find that it was a little stronger this time.
"Are you sure you're not coming back to Hyrule?" she questioned, locking her hands together.
He nodded. "Yeah. I'll probably stick around here, maybe sail out east."
"Can we keep in touch? Can I visit?"
"Maybe occasionally, but I won't ever stay in one place for very long." He picked up and put away his bow and quiver, then pulled an extra shirt from the same pocket.
Agitha rested her hand on his forearm before he got it on, frowning in worry at him. "Will you be okay?"
He shrugged. "I don't know. I need some time."
"I understand." She drew away and pulled her parasol from her basket. "I'll get going, then. See you soon, Link."
He nodded, and she left.
Link pulled his shirt the rest of the way on, intentionally avoiding even a flicker of a gaze back out the door. He caught glimpse of the two swords that he had sat over by the organ, and went to pick them up, brushing off even the slightest bit of dust that had gathered in the few hours that he had spent speaking with Agitha. Strangely enough, after rubbing a watery eye, he had to blink several times to make sure that what he was seeing wasn't a hallucination.
The swords slowly merged together until they were one, forming the second-most beautiful blade Link had ever seen - second only to Ghirahim himself. The hilt was adorned with a blue gem similar to his earring. The former Hero ran two fingers over the blades. They ran side by side, intertwined in two places: the base of the hilt, and the very tip, where they curved past each other to leave two deadly points.
He bit his lip fiercely enough to draw blood when he saw the words that scrawled themselves upon the separate edges.
One of them, evidently meant to represent him, had 'Owned' written upon it in white Hylian lettering.
The other, forcing heavy sobs out of him, read 'Blessed.'
Link was about to set the new sword aside once again when it flashed subtly, and out from it came a figure.
She was elegantly built, with metallic, ebony skin and an ivory cloak that coated her entire upper body. Her eyes were crimson, but not hostile. Instead, they seemed warm and welcoming.
"Greetings, Master Link." She reminded him a little of Fi, except she had twinges of emotion in her voice that reminded him of his own master. "Demon Lord Ghirahim has entrusted me to you with the simple orders to protect you and keep you happy. The name given to me by him is Fate, but you may call me whatever you wish."
Link said nothing, although a small smile crossed his face from underneath a rain of tears. He tried to wipe them away. "Fate...Fate is fine. Thank you."
Fate nodded and vanished back into the sword. Link rose to his feet and headed back to the same bedroom that Ghirahim had led him to earlier, setting her down and curling up underneath the covers.
He wasn't alone. Ghirahim had made sure of that. He shut his eyes with a smile - it was a sad one, but it was also content. Thank you, Master.
May we meet again in another life.
