"Please..." I heard him mutter, a sympathetic and scared took washing over his face. "You're my friend."
I pushed him into the broken glass of the helicarrier. I had him pinned against a metal support on the bottom of the bowl we were wrestling in.
"You're my mission." I growled through gritted teeth. Aiming my bionic arm at his jaw and punching with all my might. He groans and when he looks back at me his face is bleeding more then it was before.
It is a strange feeling, hitting someone with a metal arm. You can't feel it but you know it happened, it's like you are numb, all but you shoulder and the only impact you have is the cold metal on your bare scarred skin.
I felt a twinge of sympathy spark in my heart, he knew me but I didn't know him. He kept saying I was his friend and refusing to fight me, he even dropped his only weapon and defence, his shield. He said my full name was 'James Buchanan Barnes'.
"Then finish it, 'cause I'm with you 'till the end of the line." He struggled to speak his lip bleeding and pain clearly shown through body movements.
I had shot him, I had punched him, I had hurt him. And he refused to fight. We were both going to die and he must have known it.
He closed his eyes as I held my arm back to give him another blow, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I couldn't hurt him anymore then I have already, he was the only one who seemed to know who I was besides The Winter Soldier. I took the weight off of him and knelt back onto my heels. But before I could walk away the whole bottom of the glass we were just laying in collapsed and Captain America fell to his death. I had just been able to grab hold and stay on top of the metal before it exploded into millions of shards of glass.
No, he can't end like this, I can end him like this. With a running start I jumped and leapt off of what was left of the metal support I was standing on.
The last thought that crossed my mind before I hit the water was 'Is my arm water-proof?'
I painfully collided with the water and held my breath for as long as I could trying to find the sinking Captain.
There! I swam with all my might, my right arm broken and pain shooting up it whenever I took another stroke to get deeper into the abyss of water. The pressure began to get to me, my ears hurting and my brain feeling like it was being squashed. My lungs burned for air once I had Captain America in my grasp. I kicked and moved as my lungs emptied of air and I began to feel like I was going to die. But then I realised how close the surface was, I gave one last heave of strength.
My head was the first to reach air. I breathed in fresh air and coughed up some water, it trickled down my lip. Then I swam to the shore and pulled the Captain out of the water.
I laid him on the brown sand and then he had a spasm of coughing and water went everywhere.
I stared at him until he calmed down and then turned and walked away. I had no idea where I was going or if I would see him again. I had to, he's the only one who knows who I am.
