Warning: Smut.
(Metias' POV)
I'd say last night was a complete success.
Thomas kissed me. Thomas Bryant! The same Thomas who would regularly lecture me about following the rules actually broke a rule and kissed me. I still can't believe he did it. And yet, he did.
I'm glad he did.
I rest my elbows on my desk and stare at nothing in particular. After years of telling myself this was never going to happen, it finally is. It's a lot to take in. All those girls I dated in university were to take my mind off Thomas, but all they succeeded in doing was reminding me that I could never have him, that he didn't feel the same way. They just made things worse.
Maybe all those years of emotional distress were worth it.
Still, I'm not sure if I can really call Thomas my boyfriend yet. As much as I'd like to, we haven't even been on any actual dates. It's always hang out. Let's hang out. We should hang out. Never lets go on a date.
So I know what I have to do.
I'm going to ask Thomas out.

(Thomas' POV)
I get back from my morning guard duty just as my lunch break starts. Falling into my chair, I realize just how exhausted I really am. Having guard duty at the Nelson Bank is never very physically taxing, though; I'm tired because I didn't get much sleep last night. Kissing Metias didn't help.
I sigh and smooth my hair back. A silly grin tugs at the corners of my lips. I almost feel bad for feeling so good. Almost. I can't help it; Metias has always made me feel this way. It was just easier to hide it before.
A knock at the door pulls me from my thoughts. I look up just as Metias steps in. He smiles at me, and I smile back.
"Hey," he says.
"Hey," I respond.
"How was guard duty?" He asks casually, walking further into the tiny room until he's in front of my desk.
"Pretty boring, to be honest," I admit. "Nothing ever happens at Nelson Bank -- not that I'm complaining, of course. I guess no problems are better than problems."
Metias nods in agreement. "True," he says. "Though, sometimes I can't help but wish someone would just rob the bank, make my job a little bit more interesting."
I laugh, momentarily surprised that I don't even have to force it. "Don't let Commander Jameson hear you say that."
He laughs at that. After a brief pause, he speaks again. "So, uh, Thomas, are you... Do you have any plans for tonight?"
I smile. I was hoping he would ask. "Nope. You want to hang out again?"
Metias blushes and chuckles nervously. "Um, that's not exactly what I had in mind, no."
"Oh." My smile falls into a confused frown. He doesn't want to hang out? Then why did he ask me if I had plans? "What did you have in mind?"
He bites his lip and runs a hand through his messy black hair. "I..." He starts, seemingly struggling to find the right words. When he finally speaks, the words tumble out quickly, ten words I thought I'd never hear.
"Would you like to go on a date with me?"
I blink, speechless. His eyes are filled with hope, but also worry. I open my mouth, but I can't speak. I've forgotten how to breathe.
