Hybrids of Equestria
Prologue

Beginning.

A cold breeze ran down my spine, and i sat up abruptly. A droplet of sweat rolled down my forehead, my chest heaved as i panted. I could feel it, the noise of them outside my door. I was terrified and i couldn't move. I could only sit in my fear as they pounded my door down. Then it stopped. I slowly managed to get out of my bed, moving the thin blanket away and landing on the floor. My tail instantly cowered between my hind legs, and i slowly walked to the door. My ears folded down, and my shaking hoof reached forward to lock the door. The click of the lock was all i heard, before i slid down against the wall and closed my eyes. covered my face in my hooves, blonde bangs falling in front of my eyes. I wiped away the tears that were falling and grabbed my tail, stroking it to keep me sane. "Breathe.." i whispered, looking over at my phoenix as she slept soundly by the small window. "Remember you have to stay calm. They'll find you if your too loud." i huffed, finding my strength to stand up and walk back to the bed. I covered myself and held onto my breath, waiting for the others to leave. I felt the house grow empty and i breathed a sigh of relief, letting my body relax and myself try to sleep. "Be calm runner."

Runner...

I don't know where i got my name. I don't recall any family giving me a name, but i do remember a voice. She wasn't much older than me, but she called me Runner. Then one day she vanished. I don't remember her face, or who she was. But her voice sticks out. It was kinda rough but i loved the sound of it. I put myself to sleep remembering an old song she sang to me when i was little, when thunderstorms would plague the skies.
She'd sit with me and gently brush my mane, telling me even though i wasn't a hybrid like her she'd still love me the same, even though now...i am a hybrid. Forced to be one through experiment. Anyways, I thought of her as my mother, but she was too young to be my mother. So id refer to her as my sister.
One night I was cold, scared and crying in the small room that belonged to me. Its pretty fuzzy but an orange mare ran into the room, her hybrid like tail wrapping around me protectively as i buried my face into the nook of her neck. "Runner, it'll be ok." she whispered, kissing the top of my head. I looked up at her and saw how calm she seemed, even thought her image is blurred and distorted in my memory. She then sang to me, and i fell asleep. I always believed her when she told me it would be ok...

After the night passed, i woke up to he feeling of my phoenix tapping on my snout. "Belle..." i yawned, sitting up and rubbing her head. A slight sliver of light peeked through my window and i froze. "Light...?" i asked, having it been too long since i saw the sun. Over thousands of years. "Belle. Belle look!" i jumped up, my strange hybrid like leg, and tail, my white eyes going wide in excitement. "Its the sun!!" I smiled, and grabbed my things. It was true, all the dreams i had. The crystal kingdom had returned from our long banishment. I looked outside the door, and ponies walked sadly in the streets, colorless, and sad. I realized i had many bright pinks along my coat, and i was smiling. I ran as quickly as i could through the streets, and saw someone, someone i hated.

Dasher. she was one of my mortal enemies, reason? She took away my only family, my older sister. One of the only other bright ponies in this dark civilization. Hybrids, you see, weren't affected by King Sombra's magic. For some reason...
"Hey you!" i shouted, ready for another fight with this prick. "Great, this again?" The pink haired hybrid strode over to me, her strange electronic eye twitching. "what do you want? I'm trying to enjoy the sunshine."
"I want to ask you something." I huffed, "About my sister." I watched as Dash rolled her eyes and crossed her front legs. "Look blondie. I don't know shit about your sister okay? I didn't even know her. Now leave me alone." She glared at me, and i only grew angrier. "Fine. Did you know her name?"
"For fucks sake Runner, leave me alone." Dasher sighed, and i stopped walking. "Whatever." i shouted back at her, Belle hissing and spreading her wings in anger. I gently rubbed my Phoenix, whispering to her that everything was alright.

Needless to say, i managed to get out of the crystal kingdom, but not without some company. Or should i say, annoyance. The new Princess, Cadence, sent me out to spread the news that the kingdom was whole again, but i'd have an escort. Someone who was familiar with the land. Someone older than me.
My jaw dropped when i saw that pink haired hybrid, staring at me with the same shocked and pissed off expression. Dasher. "No, Princess i'm sorry but i cannot go with her." the hybrid whipped her tail at me, and i did the same, growling in retort. "Runner is a child, an obnoxious mare who cannot hold her tongue. Please send someone else." Dasher said in a matter of fact tone, and i got even more pissed off. "Excuse you? I can hold my tongue just fine, and you need to-" i was cut off, the princess looking at the both of us as we quieted down.
Then Cadence stood up, and walked towards me. "You both need to go, I chose you two specifically." she whispered. "You must spread the word to equestria that the crystal kingdom has returned, but when you are done.." she brought over a map, the old paper floating in her blue magic. "You need to find a mare. She is mysterious and comes in many forms. Along your journey to find her you will meet others, just like you." She said, voice full of urgency.

And that's how i ended up on a journey that would change my life. With the pony i hated most.
Dasher and I left later that day, boarding a train to ponyville, the first place we were meant to go and tell people about the kingdom. And to look for this mystery mare...whoever she was.
