Callie
It was the first day of my "new" life, technically. I had just moved cross country to attend my first year at USC. I was born and raised in a little town named Madelyn, Alabama. My was it pretty. It was that picture perfect town. There were cute little shops and fun places to eat. The best part about Madelyn was the beaches. It was located right on the Gulf of Mexico.
Every summer, my best friend Layla and I would basically live at the beach. We had our own little campsite and everything. From 11am till 11pm we were at Madelyn Beach. I had many memories at the beach. Some good, some that still keep my up at night, but no matter what, Madelyn will always be my home. No matter how many miles I travel. When I graduated from Madelyn High School, I moved on to the University of Alabama to get my degree in digital photography. 3 years later, and now I'm starting my 4th year here at USC.
I looked in the mirror one last time before I headed out to my first classes of the day. As my eyes roamed over the image in the mirror it shifted over to the side of the mirror where a photograph of my parents hung on the wall. My heart ached at the thought of them. I wish they were here, but I'm on the other side of the world it feels like.
I walked into my first class of the semester/week, general digital photography. There were about 15 people already in the room. I like to blend in. I'm never the first or last, but somewhere in the middle. I found a computer in the middle of the room, and sat down and replied to some messages, mostly my older sister.
I have 1 younger and 1 older sister so that makes me the middle child, ironic. My older sister, Addison is 24 and lives out here in Los Angelos. She's a interior designer for expensive LA homes. She's engaged to a music producer and will get married in October. My younger brother, Hudson is 18 and is still in Alabama and attending The U. I miss him, he's my rock, and even though he's 3 years younger than me, he's a stronger person than I'll ever be.
"Hello everyone!" A peppy voice carried through the room. "I'm professor Sole." A middle aged woman stood at the front of the class throwing some paper on her messy desk.
"Ok everyone, please take out a pencil and fill out this paper. I want to know what you already know about photography." She shouted through the room. There were only about 20 of us and the room was fairly small so i don't know why she was shouting.
"Hey, I'm sorry but do you have a pencil?" A tall boy asked. He had brown curly hair that sat atop his head. His dark green eyes reminded me of my dad. My dad always made fun of me because I was the only one in the family with brown eyes or as he joked, boring brown.
"Who doesn't bring a pencil to the first day of class?" I laughed slightly at him. He forced a smile showing his perfectly aligned teeth. I couldn't lie even if I wanted to. He was attractive. I pulled a pencil out of my bag and handed it to the boy.
"I'm Harry, by the way." He smirked and started on his paper without letting me introduce myself.

"Your final project is to project a story, or theme through your photos. You will be partnered up, you can choose your partners. It's due in 12 weeks. Have a good day. You're dismissed." Professor Sole explained to the class. The class had ended 40 minutes early, fine by me, I'm starved.
"Yes, Harry?" Professor Sole asked. I noticed Harry had his arm extended above his head.
"How are we supposed to pick our theme or story?" He asked. Most of kids had already left the room towards their beds probably. Harry, Professor Sole, and I were the last ones in the room. I tried not to pay attention as I cleaned up my area but I couldn't stop myself.
"I'll assign you a topic in a week or so." She smiled slightly annoyed by his eagerness.
"I'm not a procrastinator. I would like to start now." He proceeded.
"Harry."
"Martha." My eyes shot towards Harry. Is that her first name? Did he really just call his professor by her first name.
"I can't assign you a topic if you don't have a partner yet." She sighed standing up from her chair and collecting the papers she scattered earlier.
There was a long pause before he spoke again, "I do have a partner."
"Who?" She protested. I stood up about to leave the room when Harry pulled me into the conversation I did not want to be in.
"Me and uhh... uhh." He motioned towards me. Too bad he didn't let me introduce myself earlier.
"Callie." I said, staring at him.
"You didn't even know her name?" Sole asked laughing slightly.
"Can you just assign the damn topic?" He said, growing angry. I looked at him with a utter surprisment. She groaned.
"You and Callie can have fear." She closed her notebook and started walking towards the door before stopping in front of me.
"Good luck." She mumbled in my ear.
"Thanks."
