"Thanks for making time for me!" Isaac said as I got in his car.

"Welcome. So where to?"

"Chik-fil-a."

"So um, how's life?"

"Same as always. Nothing exciting is going on."

"Awesome."

"Not really.

"I know," we pulled into the parking lot of Chik-fil-a

Silence. We haven't hung out alone since our break up.

"I honestly thought you wouldn't want to come."

"Why wouldn't I? Just cause we're not dating doesn't mean we can't be friends."

"About dating..."

"Isaac?"

"Were you on Facebook at all yesterday?"

"Yeah."

"Get on my account at all?"

"Eileen told me I was tagged in a picture."

"Did you read the comment?"

"Skimmed it, until Eileen read it aloud."

"So?"

"What?"

"What did you think!"

"Oh, it was cute. Think about it Isaac, if we were to go out again, we'd rarely see each other. I have volleyball and softball, and more importantly acting and singing."

"And I have basketball and baseball!"

"It won't work."

"That's not what God said."

"What?"

"When your dad left yesterday for 'lunch', he was with me. I talked to him about what I should do. We prayed."

"Do you honestly think I'm just gonna say yes right now?'

"Look at where we are."

I looked around. Chik-fil-a, Turkey Foot Road, table 6, two chairs, broke lamp.

"This is where-"

"I asked you out? Yep."

"I know you broke up with me, but I still love you. And I know, no matter what you say, you love me."

My phone started to ring. "Hang on it's my mom, I should take this."

"Hey mom."

"Renee, Uncle Scott has passed," she could barely speak due to weeping.

Tears began to build up in my eyes. I usually don't cry in front of friends, but Isaac is my ex-boyfriend, he's already seen me cry.

"What happened, Renée?"

"Okay, mom. I'll be home in 10."

"No, stay with Isaac until 7:00 at least."

"Why?"

"Your dad and mamaw aren't taking this well. Just wait."

"Fine. I'll see you at 7:00ish."

"Bye, Renee."

"Bye mom."

"Isaac, remember when you met my family at Christmas?"

"Of course! Your grandma loved me!"

"Well, do you remember my uncle Scott?"

"Um, speech problems?"

"Yes. My mom just found out he died," I couldn't hold back tears.

"Oh my gosh, Renee! I'm so sorry!" He stood up and gave me a hug.

"Need me to take you home?"

"No, my mom said wait a bit."

"Wanna go back to my house?"

"Can we?"

"Anything for you."

"Thanks."

He drove me home and we didn't talk. Couldn't talk. I was crying too hard.

His mom, Stefanie Bridges, answered the door, "How'd it go- Renée! What happened!?"

I gave Isaac the you-explain-it-look. And he did it.

"Renee! Come here," she said giving me a huge hug. "You're freezing."

"Maybe 'cause it's raining mom."

"Go get her a sweatshirt, Isaac!"

'From where?"

"Your closet, Ian's closet, my closet I don't care!"

He went upstairs and brought down one of his. He knew I loved oversized sweatshirts. The baseball hoodie was brand new and warm.

"I'll make you some hot chocolate and Isaac go set up a movie downstairs."

Man, do I love his mother!

"Thank-you, Mrs. Bridges, but you don't need to do any of this."

"You were always my favorite out of all his girlfriends."

"Oh Mrs. Bridges-"

"Call me Stefanie."

"Ok. Well, Stefanie, I don't think you realize Isaac and I aren't dating again."

Her eyes widened. "Why'd be being you home then?"

"My mom didn't want me to come home yet. I guess she and my dad had to make funeral plans."

"Oh, sorry honey."

"Oh it's fine. I mean, it happens. It's my dad I'm worried about. I heard he's not taking it well."

"Sorry to hear that. Oh! Looks like the hot chocolate is done! Nothing like a warm cup of hot cocoa on a rainy day!"

"Thank you!"

"Thanks mom. We're gonna go watch the movie."

"What movie?" I asked.

"It's a surprise."

I rolled my eyes and laughed. "Well then let's get it started then."

"Have fun you two."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, mom. Let us be alone now."

She also rolled her eyes.

We went downstairs and I saw what movie we were watching.

"THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN!" He knew it was my favorite movie.

"I thought you'd enjoy it."
