I had it all. The turbo kit, the NOS, the programmable engine computer, the slip differential. Still, something felt off... Racers inspected their vehicles almost as if looking through a magnifying glass while trampy looking California girls flirted with the fuckboys. Typical street race, however the turnout was off the roof. The gloomy moonlit sky illuminated the fog surrounding us, making it more difficult for to see anything but the cars. My thoughts buzzed like a broken radio on replay. It felt like time froze in an instant and everything around me moved in a slower motion. Mouths moved but no sound came out.
"Mira! What the hell are you doing?" Luka, my older brother shook me by my shoulders frantically.
"You don't have time to be fucking zoning out!" His face was beyond red.
"I'm sorry," I shook my head and put my leather fingerless gloves on.
"I'm almost regretting letting you do this," he made a face.
"What? No! Don't say that," I frowned. "I told you that I can do this! Please just give me a chance this once!" Luka just shook his head and walked away. I'm not going to let him down. I took a deep breath and got inside my Supra. All the tension was on me now. The other drivers were already in their cars, blank serious looks on each of their faces. The crowd had finally gotten silent, all eyes on us now. I slowly pressed the ignition switch and my car roared to life, causing me to tense up in my seat. Not going to let him down. I searched the crowd looking for Luka, when I finally spotted him in the very front. His grave expression made my stomach knot up into a condensed rubber ball. A slutty girl with shorts short enough to see half her butt cheeks waved a flag in the air.
"5,4" I gulped as she counted down.
"3,2" this is insane.
"Go!" She squealed as I stomped on my gas, allowing my car to swish through all the other drivers. Before I knew it, I was in second place, now all I had to do was keep it that way. The fog made it impossible to see where on earth I was driving. Two more miles until the finish line; I needed to think now and fast. I gripped the wheel and drifted around a corner, managing to slip right passed Noel. Behind me, Noel sped up to a point where he was inches behind me now. Straightaway, this is it! I pressed the hydro boost and my car went soaring forward.

And then I felt it. The bullet burst right through my windshield, glass flying in all directions. The sound of the second bullet rang in my ears and before my eyes can detect these sudden actions, my car skidded and begin flipping continuously, knocking the air out of my lungs. It felt like a never ending roller coaster, except worse. My car landed on its roof, upside down. I coughed and tried to get out of the car that was already lit on fire. I tried to cry for help, but instead, a small whimper escaped my throat. I tried to move but my muscles would not budge. Off into the distance, Luka looked down right into my eyes, a look of disgust engraved on his face.

"I'm sorry," I tried to say, but nothing came out. Luka turned his back on me, leaving me in the car that probably had seconds of life left before it exploded, taking me with it.

"Don't leave me," I whispered as I watched him go. A dark familiar figure loomed above me.

"Time to go," he aimed the muzzle of his pistol right at my forehead.

"No," I shook my head as I tried to struggle my way out of the car, but I had no place to go; I was trapped.

A sharp bang bolted out of the pistol, surrounding me in nothing but dark matter. Darkness... with no escape... no tranquility.... Nothing...

"Mira, Mira," the same intimidating voice roared loudly in my mind. "Once again, another failure,"

Where is the hell is this voice coming from?

"How long will it take for you to realize what a fucking disgrace you are?" he chuckled.

"What the hell do you want from me?" I screamed. His face was indistinguishable, all that I saw was darkness.

"I want you dead bitch," he scoffed, "and I won't stop making your life hell until I succeed," His laugh was deafening. A tapering pain pierced through my abdomen, I touched my side and winced at the thick liquid that I touched. Blood.

"Bye-bye princess,"

I gasped for air as I sat up in my bed. Breathing hard, I run my fingers through the roots of my hair and take in a deep breath. Another nightmare. In fact, this nightmare was reoccurring for two weeks now. I have dreamt about the killer in every single one of my nightmares for a while now, and it took me by surprise every time.
The resonating buzz from engines in the garage downstairs broke me from my deep thoughts. I heaved a sigh and pulled myself out of bed. The light from my window made me squint and growl at how much sunlight was blinding me. Summer was almost over and college was right around the corner. Psh, yeah right. Like I got time for that. Luka wanted me to go, although I didn't see the point of going at all. I quickly shrugged on black sweats,a camo t-shirt, black  Nike baseball cap backwards and made my way to the garage.
The shop felt like home. A strong scent of motor oil and gasoline entered my nostrils as I spotted Luka working on the engine of a client's '69 Mustang.
"Took you long enough," he chuckled as I walked over to him and started helping him with the front axles.
"A girl needs her beauty sleep," I merely responded. Luka glanced over at me quickly and smiled.
"You look like shit," he laughed nervously. He seemed different for some reason. More tense. His hands twitched ever so slightly as he tightened the bolts with his wrench.
"You seem tense," I stopped what I was doing and turned to him. "Are you okay?" Before he could respond, his phone vibrated in his back pocket violently.

"Hold that thought," he held up a finger and answered his phone. As he stalked off, I made sure that I was close enough to hear what he was saying.

"I'm working on it," I heard Luka hiss into the phone.

"Don't worry about me," A long silence, "Then stop asking about it! I can whoop him with my eyes closed. I'm going to win this. I don't need any of your negative shit. Either you're with me or you're out," Luka returned and heaved a deep sigh.

"I'm guessing it's going to be a long night tonight. I can whip us some Redbull," I suggested.

"No, I'll be staying up. You have your first day of college tomorrow," he leaned over the car and began working on what he was previously working on.

"You must be making a mistake." I shook my head. "They kicked me out,"

"Don't give me bullshit," Luka snapped, glaring at me. "I'm not letting you fuck your life over like I did. Now be a good girl, and go pack,"

"I don't need to go to school," I crossed my arms. "You and I seem to be making a good amount at the shop,"

"Not enough, Mira." Luka shook his head, "Now do me a favor and get out of my light,"

I rolled my eyes and groaned. He is being so irrational right now! God I thought I was done with school the moment I graduated high school. Turns out, that another piece of hell follows close behind.
