Chapter 1

"I gotta get to class Brad. I'll see you later." Emily kisses my cheek and walks away. Everyone in the hall turns their head towards her, even him. And I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt.

   I walk up to Tommy and shove him against his locker. "You staring at my girlfriend?" His big beautiful....I mean his eyes widened in fear.

"What? I uhh wasn..." I send a silent apology before I shove my fist into his stomach. I have to set an example, I can't have him staring at my girlfriend and getting away with it. What will that say about me? That I don't care if other people want what's mine and they can do whatever the hell they want? No.

   He falls to the ground and looks up at me with so much rage I almost take a step back. Almost. He throws his hand out in front of him like he's trying to use the force or something. Wait...he's not a... No. He can't be.

   His hand falls and I walk away, heading to my first period. I couldn't get Tommy off my mind for the rest of the school day. I hope he's okay... I mean I hope I didn't leave a bruise and he doesn't go crying to his mom. Yeah, because I know how those bruises can be hard to hide...

   When the last bell rings I make my way to Tommy's locker when I see him and Emily walking down the hall together. I just stand there staring. Looking at how he looks at her, how it looks like he almost adores her. I feel a stinging in my chest and I start to walk away. I feel Emily hug me from behind and I turn and hug her back. I look over her head and see Tommy looking at her like a lost puppy before he turns and heads the other way down the hall.

"...and Tommy said he'd love to do it! Isn't that exciting! My first interview!" I looked down totally lost. I only paid attention when I heard his name.

"You didn't hear a word I just said did you?" She scolds. Yeah, I heard you talk about Tommy and that's a topic I could talk about all day. But I didn't say that. I just shook my head and she started again.
"I talked to Tommy to apologize for your ogre like behavior and we talked about the ice cream shop. I asked if he wanted to be the new scooper, you know cause Andy got fired for mouthing off to the customers, and he said sure! He's coming by later so I can interview him! Isn't that awesome! My first interview!" She danced a little bit.

"Yeah babe that's awesome. Don't you have to get to French Club?" She nods and heads to her class. Heads turning as always.

   I walk out to my car and head home. If that's what you could even call it. By the time I'm in the driveway I hear my stepfather screaming at my mom. Oh shit he's probably drunk again. As I walk in the door something hits my head and I'm falling to the ground.
